Things have, of course, been extremely busy and chaotic at Sectus Ground Zero, and I've not had sufficient time for an in-depth update. I still don't. But I'm SO FUCKING EXCITED right now, and I just have to update with a quick statement. No spoilers; just something general here ( Read more... )

OK, aside from that little matter about the deaths (and you know how much stock I set by that, anyway), I think DH has given us some wonderful new canon to work with. I mean, House Elves can Apparate with people? Mutliple people? Hello Escape from DE Dungeons fics. Stuff on the Goblins? Wizarding fairy tales and fables? The whole Deathly Hallows thing she came up with just makes me salivate. All the incredible background on Dumbledore! And especially on Dumbledore's relationship with Snape! God, *I* might even have to write some SS/AD after this book.

And as for Snupin? Oh man! Even if you want to be inflexible and accept the (apparent) canonical ending, look at all the blanks JKR left us! We've got a distraught, freaking-out Remus (yeah, he *says* it's because he's a werewolf but I think we all *know* it's because he's GAY and doesn't really wanna be married and expecting) who doesn't seem to wanna spend a lot of time with his pregnant wife. What to do, what to do? I dunno... maybe go meet up with your sexy DE spy lover and Shag Like There's No Tomorrow???? Because we see Snape and Lupin near the front of the book, but not so much in the middle. What *could* have been happening all that time, I wonder?

OK, maybe it's because my primary OTP is Snape/Black, and I'm already *used* to shipping dead characters, but I'm just not bothered by this. I think DH was overall a beautiful, emotional and well-crafted book that gave us lots of neat new stuff to work with, but it's just a jumping-off point. Fanfic is speculative, and often AU by its very nature. I mean, I'm pretty sure JKR didn't intend her characters to be having slash orgies with each other in the first place (tho after reading some parts of DH, I'm not so sure anymore. ;-))

Hell, I'm already sitting here wondering which of my in-process fics to finish first.

I'm actually still in the process of reading the book thoroughly for plot/comprehension, but yeah -- we have a TON of new material to work with. I'm not AT ALL worried about any of my favorite pairings. Hmm... I think I might email you with some of my thoughts soon...

Yeah, I agree that all fic is AU by nature, and I'm not bothered by that. It seems that less of the fandom is bothered by AU than I originally believed, as well. And EWE (Epilogue? What Epilogue?) FTW!

I guess I didn't hate the epilogue as much as other folks, tho it certainly didn't tell me everything I wanted to know about all the characters. But that's OK. I'd really rather not know, in some cases. I do love Albus Severus, however, and Harry's comment about him.

And for all the people who were moaning about leaving fandom in anticipation of DH, I really haven't seen anyone doing it yet. Rather than kill fandom, DH seems to have excited everyone. We want to play with canon and we want to divert from canon. And I don't seem to be the only one with the opinion that now that JKR is done with the series, it's *our* playground now. :-D
