Your Daily Stupidity for March 11, 2007 is brought to you by the Oklahoma State Department of Health.
So in order to travel to London in July, I need to obtain a passport. In order to obtain a passport, I need to obtain a copy of my birth certificate. Simple two-step procedure, right? Wrong.
I sent in the required paperwork requesting a copy of my birth certificate (over a MONTH ago, mind you). I've legally changed my name since birth, so I sent along a copy of my court order for the name change in order to prove that I am who I say I am, and therefore have a right to a copy of my birth certificate.
They sent back a letter (over a MONTH later, I might have mentioned) saying that I would need to send them an additional $15 and a certified copy of the court order in order to change my name on my birth certificate. BZUH? I don't want my name changed on my birth certificate. I didn't ask to have my name changed on my birth certificate. I only want a copy of my birth certificate as is.
So now I'm going to have to get in contact with them and explain very slowly in monosyllabic words what it is that I want. Just the copy of my birth certificate for which I've already sent in the paperwork and for which I've already paid. And then I'll probably have to wait another MONTH.
Albus on toast.
