Fall Schedule!

We're not going to talk about last night. Nope. I'd just like to note that both of my roommates are badly hungover today, and I'm not. Nyah-nyah! :P~

The real reason for this post is that I now have a solid class schedule for next semester! First, a bit of background about the first year of the anthropology grad program at UPenn: Incoming grad students are expected to take four courses per semester (which is a fairly substantial work load for grad school). Two of those courses each semester are predetermined required courses -- grad level introductory courses in each of the subdisciplines of anthropology (archaeology, physical, cultural, and linguistic), and the other two are open as electives.

My two required courses for Fall:
ANTH-600 Fundamentals of Archaeology (Monday, 9:00-12:00)
ANTH-617 Contemporary Approaches to Culture and Society (Tuesday, 10:00-1:00)

My first elective was a no-brainer:
ANTH-507 Primate Behavior and Human Evolution (MW, 3:30-5:00)
Given my background in this stuff, the class should be a cakewalk. But I could use some easy courses my first semester, and this one will serve as a good introduction to the subject matter at Penn.

I just found my second elective yesterday, and I'm very excited:
ANTH-719 Archaeology Field Project (Friday)
Straight-forward archaeological field work at a site in South Jersey. No exams, no long papers; we just get bused to the site every week and spend the day digging in the dirt. I'd wanted to get more involved with the archaeological aspects of the discipline once I got to Penn, and this will be a great opportunity to get some hands-on experience in field work.

Orientation for new students in the department is on Wednesday, September 6 -- yay! Unfortunately, they've also scheduled another thing that I'm supposed to attend the following Monday so that it conflicts with my late afternoon class. Joy.

According to my ticker, it's one month, one week, and one day until school starts! ...Damn, I should probably go study something...
