[ic info]
Character: Riku
Series: Kingdom Hearts II
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Has no time for sex. But, really, he doesn't have a preference. Girls, guys, whatever.
Appearance: Riku is tall, tanned and has long, silver hair. His hair covers half of his face, his bangs having grown out during his journey. He wears a balck, sleeveless zip-up shirt and a white and yellow zip vest. The combination reveals his muscled arms, though one of his wrists and forearm is covered by a white cloth. He wears really baggy jeans with the pockets on the outside. A studded belt is supposedly keeping them up, but they are notorious for falling down and making fangirls die. He wears sensible sneakers (yes, they exist in KH! Who knew!?). His eyes are aqua, but are usually hidden by his hair.
Personality: Riku's main conflict is that between light and darkness. He fights for good, but finds himself drawn into the darkness by his own ambition. His naive nature at the beginning of the series led him towards darkness, but his innate good helped him see the light. He cares for his friends above himself and sacrifices his own freedom to help Sora throughout his time in the form of Xehanort's Heartless. It's a form he only took on so that he could travel through darkness and combat it to help Sora. With his loyalty, he also is plagued with a complex of guilt. He doesn't think himself to be worthy of being Sora's friend after all he did to him when he had joined forces with Malificent. He wants to eradicate darkness so that it can't harm him or his friends ever again, and he isn't afraid to give up his own life in order to achieve this goal.
Riku finds himself drawn to the unknown. It's intrigues him and he can find himself obsessed with it. He used to want to see what was beyond the Islands, but once he saw all that there really was to see, he found himself wishing for the Islands, even though he also didn't think that he should go back.
Sarcasm is something Riku revels in, when he's not focused on fighting back darkness or saving his friends. It lets him fret in his pessimistic outlook without letting on by the dry tone in his voice. He never likes seeing Sora beat him, but as he matures he finds that he sort of enjoys watching Sora succeed, even though he'll tease him endlessly whether he wins or not.
Abilities: Riku has control over darkness. Many of his attacks are darkness based and most are also useful for anyone he's fighting along side. He uses the Keyblade, Way to the Dawn, and it is the channel for any magic he uses. His magical abilities include curing spells, shields, limits and elemental spells. Riku's limit is linked with Sora. When they're both together, they can use the limit and enhance their fighting abilities. He also can fire dark orbs at enemies and create barriers of darkness.
Weaknesses: Without the Keyblade, Riku finds it difficult to wield magic, but he is still proficient with a sword, be it magical or not. He is susceptible to darkness, but has found himself becoming more and more resistant to it. He can stave off its power, but it is still able to control him when his guard is down.
History: This is long and boring and is basically in bullet point. Wiki-canon review FTW? Sorry for this... It spans five games.
When Riku is young, Terra visits Destiny islands and chooses him as his successor, allowing him to test his strength with the Keyblade. Soon after this, Kairi appears in a meteor shower, much like superman, and soon Riku and Sora befriend her. On the islands, Sora and Riku have a secret cave where Riku glimpses the Islands' Keyhole. From that day forth, Riku's dream is to find the way to open the door with the Keyhole and visit other worlds.
Years later, when Riku is 15, he, Sora and Kairi build a raft. In the process of this, the two bicker and compete, Riku challenging him to a fight which will decide who will share a paopu fruit with Kairi and thus entwine their destinies. Before the three can leave the Islands on their raft, Riku become impatient and finally opens the Keyhole. The Islands are overrun with Heartless. Sora attempts to save Riku from the darkness which is overwhelming him, but Riku disappears into it.
When he wakes after this, he finds himself in Hollow Bastion where Malificent offers him a place to stay. She begins corrupting his mind, convincing him that he and Kairi are being replaces by Donald and Goofy in Sora's heart. She claims that to save Kairi's heart from the darkness, he has to abandon Sora and ally with her. He agrees to work with her after he meets Sora again in Traverse town and holds his Keyblade.
He begins to hate Sora because of all the lies Malificent is poisoning him with, yet when they reunite in Monstro, they are forced to work together to save Pinocchio, who he then kidnaps. He asks Sora to join him in saving Kairi, but Sora refuses. Riku then leave him alone to fight by using a dark portal.
They meet again in Neverland where Kairi is being held. Riku is now in control of the Heartless and Sora warns him that the Heartless will turn on him, but Riku merely creates Anti-Sora and leaves, taking Kairi with him. He travels through the corridors of Darkness without a vessel and Malificent unlocks the last of his powers while he is weak from this trip. This is the final blow which allows his heart to be almost completely overcome by darkness.
He meets Sora again in Hollow Bastion and confronts him, taking his Keyblade and leaves, Donald and Goofy follow him and the Keyblade. Sora tracks them down, but Riku refuses back down, strengthened by the darkness which changed his appearance to something more fearsome. The two fight and Riku is forced to retreat, losing the Keyblade to its true master. Riku finds himself in the Darkness where he is contacted by a voice which offers him his own Keyblade, and because of his rivalry with Sora he cannot refuse. To receive it, though, he must become one with the darkness and becomes possessed by the voice.
He now wields a Keyblade made of the hearts of the princess' and uses it to unlock the darkness in Malificent's heart, setting her and a giant dragon against Sora. Sora, Donald and Goofy defeat her and later confront Riku who is disguised as Ansem, the Seeker of Darkness. Riku wants to unlock Kairi's heart from Sora's, but fails. Sora does it himself shortly after, and with him gone, Xehanort's Heartless attacks Kairi. Riku saves her, using all his strength to hold the Heartless off but it eventually takes over his body. Sora later defeats the Heartless and Riku returns to himself. He helps Sora close the Door to Darkness and is trapped on the side of Darkness.
The next time we see Riku, he is in the bottom floor of Castle Oblivion. He is offered to either sleep and forget or to take a card and seek the truth. He choose the card, traveling to the Hollow Bastion of his memories. The voice mocks him as he searched for someone, anyone. He finally happens across Malificent and fights her, rejecting the darkness. He wins, leaving to discover the true Castle Oblivion beyond his memories. Soon he learns that the Voice is that of Xehanort's Heartless who wishes to return to Riku's body. Riku fends him off with the help of King Mickey's light. He is left with world cards and his inner darkness which he can now wield as a weapon.
Soon Riku discovers that he can sense the scent of darkness, but he still continues on, aided by King Mickey, to defeat the darkness within him. Riku meets Vexen, the fourth member of Organization XIII, and fights him, thinking him to be in league with Xehanort's Heartless. Vexen creates a replica of Riku using information gained from their battle. Riku is set against his replica and the replica flees. Xehanort's Heartless tells him that the replica is what he should be, but he again refuses the darkness offered to him.
While passing through the castle, Riku finds Lexeaus and battles him, but Lexaeus knocks him out and as he is about to kill him, Xehanort's Heartless possesses Riku again. Lexaeus was not expecting this and falls at Xehanort's Heartless' hands. Riku strives to rid himself of Xehanort's Heartless, but is almost overwhelmed (again) when King Mickey saves him.
When Riku finally reaches the ground level of C.O., Marluxia is defeated by Sora and Zexion arrives to explain to Riku what happened. He reveals that it was Sora who defeated Marluxia and gives him the card to enter Destiny Islands. There, he meets his friends, but they all disappear, one by one. He confronts his fears at Zexion's hands, defeating an illusion of himself as a Heartless. Zexion disguised as Sora tells him that it is time to face the light. He begins to fade just as Namine disguised as Kairi tells him that he cannot fade because neither light nor darkness can hold him. He draws on his darkness and attacks Zexion, who is killed by Riku's Replica.
Xehanort's Heartless attempts to take him again, but King Mickey again saves him. Soon he appears again, but Riku knows that he cannot be Ansem as he claims because he does not smell of darkness. This time it is not actually Xehanort's Heartless, but is DiZ. DiZ tells him to choose between Dark and Light. Finally, Namine explains the situation to him and offers to seal away Xehanort's Heartless forever, but he refuses, wishing to defeat him himself.
Riku faces Xehanort's Heartless and finally defeats him, rejecting the foul stench of darkness that resides with him. Riku finally decides to choose a path of both Light and Darkness. With his choice, he is given the right to call the King by his first name. DiZ asks him which path he chose, he says that he chose the "Road to Dawn". He joins forces with DiZ, donning a blindfold so that "his eyes couldn't lie" about the darkness within him.
While trying to help Sora retrieve his memories, Riku comes upon Xion, who he sees as Sora. He knocks her down and calls her a sham. He also encourages her to leave the Organization, which she later does. Riku and Xion stay in C.O. until she leaves and Riku is left to distract Axel and Roxas as they search for her. He then rejoins her and tells her that she is necessary for Sora to regain his memories.
He meets the King in Twilight Town, but he is in the form of Xehanort's Heartless. The King doesn't know who he is until he replaces his blindfold, returning to his real body. He tells the King that if he is defeated by the Organization, Mickey has to protect Sora. He then faces Roxas and kidnaps him, taking him to DiZ who created a virtual Twilight Town for him, but he had to unleash Xehanort's Heartless again to defeat him.
Riku watches over Roxas and keeps him from the truth. When Roxas is finally part of Sora, Riku demands to know DiZ's, who calls himself Ansem, true intentions, which turn out to be revenge. Riku still continues with the plan, though, since he wants Sora to come back to himself. Once this has happened, DiZ orders him to get rid of Namine, the mastermind behind Sora's memories, but he gives her over to Axel instead, then he leaves DiZ.
Finding the King again, he asks him not to tell Sora that he's alright, or that he's working in the darkness. He then continues on his quest to help Sora without Sora's knowledge. He saves Kairi after Axel kidnaps her and takes her to Twilight Town, but she doesn't know that it's him. Riku then leaves Sora, Donald and Goofy a box containing sea-slat ice cream and a photo of Roxas and his three best friends.
At his next attempt to help Sora, Sora attacks him, thinking that he's a member of Organization XIII. Riku defeats the boss of the Land of Dragons and warns the Emperor. He continues to help Sora, facing Saix with Sora with his new Keyblade, Way to the Dawn. Kairi discovers Riku's identity, but is attacked by Heartless as she tries to see Sora. Riku saves her yet again, giving her a Keyblade so that she can fight. Riku tries to leave then, but Kairi stops him. Sora can now see the real Riku underneath the disguise of Xehanort's Heartless. The two joyously reunite before they move on to battle the Organization's leader, Xemnas.
Riku is restored to his normal form by an explosion in conjunction with the final touches on Kingdom Hearts. He removes his coat and blindfold, confronting Xemnas at Sora's side. He takes a blow meant to kill Sora and they beat Xemnas. The two enter the Dark Meridian and talk through what has happened between them. Riku finds a bottle from Kairi and gives it to Sora who then manages to open a Door to Light, and Riku walks out of it into Midgar.
Sample LJ post: [Riku grasps the communicator in his hand, brows furrowed and Keyblade in hand] What the hell just happened? Sora, where are you?! We didn't... Why aren't we back in the Castle? This isn't right. [He glances around]
If someone can tell me where I am and what's going on, that'd be just great. We didn't stumble into some other World on accident, did we? Sora, if this was your fault--[the communicator is shut off as Riku whips around something clanking behind him]
Sample RP post: The darkness was closing in on him, but Riku wouldn't let it win. The explosion pulled him in and he found himself blinded by a light shining in front of him. He blinked through his blindfold, the area around him fuzzy, but the light shone brightly, his whole self concentrated on it. He lifted the clothe and blinked. This was the moment when the darkness would come, it always did. His eyes would betray him, as they always did. He waited for the darkness to close in on him, but all he saw was Sora's face, the boy looking concerned and asking if he was alright. It took Riku a moment to comprehend his words. He had been so focused on the imminent darkness, but that darkness never came.
He pulled off the blindfold, staring at Sora as his eyes became more and more concerned. Riku found himself at a loss for words. The darkness hadn't come. He could feel the severe lack of weight on him. No dark fog surrounded his vision before the Heartless took over his form. He had learned to battle it back, but never like this. Never in the past year had he been without its presence. Until now.
Don't you understand? Hells yes. The Reunion is coming.
