Irulan Worries

Dec 23, 2006 22:36

Irulan has been hiding in her stick for a few days now. This isn't unusual in and of itself as she's in a shedding cycle; ball pythons like to hide while they're in shed.

I'm nosy, though, so I picked up the stick (while Mom was out for a short while) and picked up Irulan. Every so often she'd make a wheezing/whistling noise, and now I'm concerned. This is usually a sign of respiratory infection. However, she is in shed, so it could be loose skin or annoyance at being bothered during shed. She was opening her mouth a tiny bit more than normal, though, which is another thing that happens when they have respiratory problems. I could just be getting paranoid, however. She hasn't been opening her mouth since--other than yawning--that I can tell, and I didn't notice any mucus in her mouth, so that's good.... But still, it concerns me. I just need to stay calm and wait until after she's done shedding. If the whistling persists, then I'll have to take her to the vet. *sigh*

I put her in some warm water for a little while, both for the shed and in case she needs to "go." She usually hates the water with a passion, but this time she just kind of sat. When bothered, she started doing the usual "Get me out of here!" movements and then would sit again. I picked her up and tried to look closely at her nose. I didn't see much (not the best lighting), but she let me not only touch her head but also kind of coax her to facing the light so I could see better. I didn't think she was that comfortable with my touching her head....

Again, I could be paranoid. Easy to do because of Stumpy. I just don't want my little one to be sick. I love her more than any pet I've ever had.

In other news, my parents made it here okay, though it turned out to be easier said than done. Red flags went up when I tried checking their itinerary and none of their flights showed up. I was a moron and didn't follow through, though, and so my parents found out that their flight had been cancelled when they tried checking in. Whoops.

Well, they ended up leaving Indy an hour early on another flight, and they were on standby for two flights in DFW. They made the second one and were here by midnight Saturday morning. Woo!
