Hello all
It has been a while since I updated, so here is an account of my life over the past few months. Because I am delightful, I have made a
So, the Commission joy ended (for now) and I returned to the land of my birth - sweet Angleterre. It rained. And then it rained some more. But as you know all about how much rain there has been this summer, I won’t elaborate further. Suffice to say, I felt very much like I had come home. And this year (in contrast to the summer after my year in Paris) the change back to full-time English was less of a shock, and what shock there was, was expected.
The real shock of coming back to the UK was that of leaving my peaceful, law-focused, largely quiet world, and plunging headfirst into a demented bunch of light entertainers, who were in Cambridge rehearsing for our Eboro shows. Joy and merriment abounded, as well as cider in great quantities. But at times I felt extremely out of it. However, I couldn’t imagine more pleasant company, nor a better way of spending a couple of summer weeks.
Eboro itself was great fun, as always. Lovely group of people, two very good scripts, and a couple of pretty smashing shows. Pilly, who has hidden his light under a bushel for years and years, has proved not only to be a capable writer, but an excellent director, and the Matrix was brilliant fun to watch as a result. I suspect the amazing cast also helped matters…. As for the Revue, all that can be said is that I am very pleased indeed. Everyone put in all, no, perhaps even more than they thought they could give - and the result was a joyously kitsch revue, full of deliciousness, which is still making me giggle when I think back over it. I might even be persuaded to do Eboro one more time….maybe.
Of course, being in Eboro also involved seeing a whole bunch of other shows, most notable being the News Revue and, for sheer wierdness, Famished. The Fringe felt a little quieter than during other years - perhaps it’s because we were up in second week, maybe the flooding has kept people busy, or perhaps it’s just that Two Shades are getting louder!
Anyway, it was a marvellous week, and I was very pleased to stay on after the shows and potter around with the nice chaps from ICE, and do silly things like climb Arthur’s Seat dressed as a superhero (well, a pirate, actually, but the underpants make it a piratey sort of superhero)…anyway….also cooked pies and ate haggis and generally enjoyed myself. There are such special people in the light entertainers. But I’ll not make you all vomit by going off on a “you’re all marvellous” waffle. You know you are. So there. Yarr.
So after the joy of Eboro, I had a journey down south to do, and a mother to visit. No chance this summer to see half the people I wanted and intended to see (particularly all of my lovely friends who live in London - the spirit was willing, but there is only so much time in the summer when you have spent part of it in the wrong bit of the country). Journeying down south took me via York, where I decided on breaking my journey and seeing my lovely godmother, and all-grown-up brother (both of whom were hospitable and charming company), and going over to visit my lovely grandparents.
Passed an enjoyable few days there, and then on to mother’s. As the last time I really saw her was Christmas (and that didn’t count as I was comatose for most of the holiday) it was really very good to just spend some time chatting to her - though as the week went on, I had to prepare a zillion things for my trip to Luxembourg, which mother patiently put up with, whilst encouraging me to do nice things like go for walks and cut off all my hair. Hurrah!
Anyway, finally finished packing for Luxembourg this morning, and headed off on an epic journey, which has taken the entirety of today. I’m currently sitting in a bland hotel room, not far from Lx station, with my back aching and aching, and my head spinning at the enormity of the task of finding accommodation. Not easy to do, especially as I have managed to conveniently forget my mobile phone…..in Belgium. I picked up about half my stuff from Chris’ house, and thought I would be clever and save time by charging up my phone….and you can guess the rest. Ah well, Polly style muppetry strikes again. Wish me luck, boys and girls, as I am going to need all the luck I can possibly get!
Right, I think that is enough wittering at you for now. Sweeties and gin go to anyone who has bothered to read this far. I’ll keep you updated on the excitement of life at court (and I am excited, wildly excited, about that! despite worrying my little socks off about it all, I’m very pleased to be out here), but at this moment in time, what I need is a good old sleep.
