The Real McCoy

Just been watching a VHS out of the shelf. Off Air TV from the days when it was still worth watching....

A series by young black comedians of both genders called the Real McCoy. Can you get it on DVD? No. Mind you I see Desmond's is still available. Great comedy cut short by the death of Norman Beaton.

Some shows die when their lynchpin passes, they attempted to keep Round The Horne going with Stop Messing About but it died with Kenneth HorneHorne

ITMA died with Tommy Handley in 1949. He was two years younger than I am now.

BBC Radio4 extra are running a series of ITMAs each Sunday at 8am, 3 & 8pm....
Today's was the earliest surviving episode, a special made between the first and second series, live from the Palace Theatre Manchester in May 1940. Utterly fascinating to me because the ITMA recordings I've heard were all much later, '44,'45,'49...
This dates from the time of the ITMA single, and the show, obviously special for the stage, has characters from the very early days; Lola Tickle not Mrs Mopp, and a great deal of Funf.
Very limited cast.
A useful thing to see would be the film version from 1942.

TTFN!
