Title: Two Voices from the Ether
Fandom: Fire Emblem 8 + 10
Genre: Drama/Supernatural
Rating, Warnings: PG just 'cause it's not G.
Word Count: ~800
Summary: Lyon and Pelleas have the pleasure of a conversation at their infinitely spanning leisure.
Notes: This is called "In which Ammie decides she is TOO COOL TO WRITE LIKE A NORMAL PERSON". The formatting is not quite as elegant as it looks in my document since the div thing has a bit of a space under it, but hey, much closer than what I was able to achieve on FFN. Also, please resize your browser window so that the rows of x's just spans its width so it looks like it should. :3

Is someone else there?

Who? M-me?
I'm sorry. I didn't mean to startle you...

... No, it's not your fault. For a moment, I wasn't sure where...
... Where am I?
Oh. That's...

Am I dreaming?
These blankets are horribly tight. I can't move my hands.
You will know. It took me some time, too. I don't think it's my place to tell you.

No, please. I want to know. Are we in danger?
I would say not.
... Can you remember the last thing you did?

... I can't.
Neither could I.
All I could think of was her...

... I wonder if she's doing all right.
I haven't seen her around the palace in days.
I know she wants to spend more time with the people, but I wish she would visit more often.
I could command her to. Mother would tell me to.
It wouldn't be the same.
They never think about you in quite the same way. She was kind to me...
She was kind to everyone. I was just another one of her friends.
But the way she would look at her brother - I know why.
He was strong, capable, a good leader...
Nothing like me.

...I remember now.
That was months ago.
That senator came by, and...
I should never have been crowned.
If it had been her... she wouldn't have fallen for it.
Instead, it was me. I sent her away to fight someone else's war.
I hope she'll come back.
I ruined everything.
Don't be so hard on yourself...
You couldn't have done worse than me.

You don't know what I've done to everyone.
I know what I did.
I broke ancient laws. I was foolish.
I thought I could control something like that...
But I was too weak. I should've known. I thought of her
and then the demon conquered me and, in her memory, ravaged the world.

I'm... lucky.
I'm lucky I don't have the power to do that.
It used to be that my mistakes could never hurt anyone.
When I learned that I was a prince, I thought I was lucky.
I think it was the worst of misfortunes that could have befallen me.
I want to go back.
I want that too.
If only there were a way.

Back to the blankets with fleas, the dirt that covered everything, the cold that killed three each winter.
The oldest and his stray slingshot rounds that found my arm.
At least I knew that place.
At least there was no one I could harm.
If none of this had happened... I would not know her, but she would be happier.
I took so much from her. Her kingdom, her people, her father, her innocence. No, not her innocence.
I knew in the volcano when she still trusted me that nothing could ever change her,
or feed from her wickedness because she has none.
Still, after everything I had done!
I know at least that she is strong. She will be fine.
She will smile as she rights all of my failures. I wish she didn't have to.

... I remember now. There was a way for me to amend what I had done.
"The blood pact breaks when the pact-maker is killed by a third party."
... I called them over. The three of them: my general, her companion,
and her. She hated it, but I wanted it to be her. I wanted her to kill me.
... Do you remember, then...?

I can't think... I remember...
I remember how her dagger hand trembled
I remember the sacred sword beautiful in her hand

before she gripped it tight
eyes blazing as she cried for me
and with one plunge
...

... Am I... am I dead, then?
... Yes. As far as I know...

Strange. I thought it would be different.
Me too. I thought I would see my father again
or the citizens of my kingdom
and apologize.

The pact can't reach us here.
I could tell my soldiers why they died, if that would give them peace.
But all this time, you're the only one I've seen here.
I guess she's also bound for a better place than this.
And in fifty years, I wanted to see her again

just to make sure everything turned out all right in the end.
... Have you been alone?
What is your name, if I may ask?
You have been the only one for I don't know how long.
I no longer remember my name.

That's strange. Neither do I.
I guess it wasn't anything important.
There are many other things I would like to share.

I would listen to it. I wonder why we are here together?
Perhaps we suffer the same fate in life and death? Whatever it may be, I'm glad to have your company.

I'm glad to have yours. Are we waiting here? Will we be here forever?
I don't know. But we have a lot of time to pass.
