What exactly is the sci-fi television show fascination with opening bird's-eye-view shots of naked men lying in the fetal position in some wilderness location?

Well, this new show 'Kyle XY' not only started out with almost the exact same sequence as 'John Doe' but seems to have much the same premise/plot. That got me thinking, and well, I can think of at least four circumstances - I edited my post to include the examples.

No, I get that.

The deja vu similarities were really starting to creep me out last night the more I thought about them.

I mean, not only is this Kyle's story a combination of the premises of John Doe and Smallville (let's see - youthful non-human [no belly button] appears naked in the wilderness and after astounding everyone by his total memory loss, lack of history, and scary smartness, is taken in by a well-meaning Earth family with a uses-his-hands dad and a touchy-feely mom. Oh, and it appears he is both a) developing a crush on the attractive [possibly fatherless] girl-next-door and b) being watched/hunted by mysterious personages with official documents about him) BUT the actor who plays the title role could concievably be the lovechild of Dominic Purcell and Tom Welling.

It's just...weird.
