This day sure wound up nice

Feb 14, 2006 21:28

Today has been one of those "The universe pelts you with rotten lemons - which turn out to be stuffed with chocolate truffles" kind of days. (Yes, I know that is not a metaphor and really makes no sense, but go with it.)

Examples?

I left the house at 7:45 this morning - actually, it was 7:50, which means I pulled out of the neighborhood a little faster than I should...and right past the motorcyle with the flashing red and blue lights.

At 8:00 I'm on the road again, rather bummed, at the next light I'm checking to see how much I owe, but then my brain plays back what just happened, and the bottom of the paper says "will not go on your driving record" - I only got a WARNING!
(I totally was expecting a ticket - 42 in a residential 30-zone and Edmond police will NAIL you every time they can. I guess having only one ticket and one weather-related accident in 8 years of driving pays off sometimes.)

So I get to work and the computer guy who was only supposed to check on some system facotors so he could order parts starts taking by tower apart. (I have a meeting in three hours and lots of work to do!)

BUT... he only took about 30 minutes and was able to pop in another memory stick, meaning I didn't have to reboot my computer a SINGLE TIME ALL DAY! (a minor miracle, believe me)

I will not bore you with more working tales of woe! -wait, woo! from today, but there were several more minor ones.

Oh, and then the maintenance guys FINALLY came to replace the burned out lightbulbs in the front behind my desk (that have been burned out since a week or two BEFORE I got back - nobody has responded to our requests). As they're finishing, they drop one of these industrial-size flourescent lightbulb-tubes and it EXPLODES!

The bright side? I had just gotten up and walked to the back of the office for something totally random. If I had not, I would have been caught in the backdraft. Seriously there were fragments of glass on my keyboard, under my computer, all over my seat - and the metal/wiring end of the tube had been thrown under my chair.

Oh, and not only did I not get hurt, but no pieces landed in my lo mein noodles and egg drop soup!

Most recent happy discovery?

My local WB affiliate is NOT running basketball but is instead airing Supernatural as is right and proper (I recorded it and will be viewing shortly - I still can't believe I didn't get to see last week's. [They were dressed as priests. PRIESTS!] But this is a good thing.)

Other things that make me happy?

I had quesadillas and THREE kinds of grapes for dinner - and I'm eating leftover spaghetti and meatballs right now.

ALL OF YOU.

My pretty, pretty roses and lovely, lovely chocolates! (no down side to that at all!)

*shares boxes of candy with flist*
*points out the caramals and truffles to those who like*
(*these boxes OBVIOUSLY do not contain any atrocity like orange cream*)

candy, good day, awww you guys!, supernatural, stories, happy, busy, i'm glad today is over, bad day, silver linings, flist
