You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

So, I read fanfic.

Before I became active in fandom/the online community at large, I had no idea of how widespread the world of fanfic truly was.

Any awareness I had of fanfic was mostly negative opinion. How much of the "normal" world probably views it.

Of course, now I know that not only can fanfic be incredibly well-written, but in fact, in ( Read more... )

*facepalm*, what would we do without the internet?, ahhhhh!, fanfic

FANFIC!!

We are such livejournal soulmates lately, you and me. *hugs*

I've been trying to work on and build the BN fanfic community lately. I discovered that the USA boards didn't have a thread for fanfic (which was like always a given on TWoP), so I started that and started reccing fics and trying to get people to talk about fic and what was good and bad and all that jazz. That has gotten a couple new people to get the courage to post some stuff, which is good, but oh, it's so heartbreaking when they're just not good writers. *sigh* There's a very nice lady, who's actually an English teacher, but her stuff is just not that great. The ideas are good, but she has soooo many typos, with words and with punctuation. *sigh* The last thing she did had so much dialogue but not a single quotation mark. Oy.

Typos drive me crazy, I think it must be from all of the obsessive people in the GG and VM Meet Markets so many years ago, but I have an eagle eye for them. I usually don't mention them to people in reviews, because I know I'll just look like a you-know-what. But there was this one story that came up recently for BN, and there was an incredibly unfortunate typo and there was no way that I could NOT say anything, so I sent the author a PM and they almost immediately reuploaded the story with a note of thanks for me too. It was supposed to say something like, "Fi touched the gauze to the cut on Lily's head..." But the author had accidentally added a very unfortunate N to the word cut and, oh...it was just bad, bad, bad.

So do you read BN fic? Have you read any of mine? I'm quite curious now. You really do need to come over to the dark side and come visit the USA BN boards...you know you want to. ;)
