Conversation Overheard

Sister had been in Momma's room going over grammar lesson. Leaves room saying something about going to "get a stack of my papers" as she shuts the door behind her.

Momma scurries across and re-opens door "'A stack of my papers' ...‘is’ or ‘are’?"

Sister: (in a "Momma, I GET IT. It can be lesson-over time now?" tone of voice) “Is”

Momma: (in a "Uh-huh, but can you answer THIS?" tone of voice) “Whyyyyy?”

Sister: (Duh.) “'Stack'”

Momma: (Leaning out doorframe to address Sister's departing back) “What about 'of papers'?”

Sister: (Part "I so totally pwn this concept" Part "My mother is SUCH a dork (albeit a delightful one)" tone called gaily over the shoulder) “Prepositional phrase”
