Look at me! I'm updating!

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooo...it's been awhile fags. What's up? I've been doing a lot of nothing. I'm about to start my new job up at UC..CHECKING FIRE EXTINGUISHERS! Yeah, sounds like a lot of walking around doing barely anything for $7 an hour, and I'm sure it will be, so that should be pretty awesome.

So like a week and a half ago, Christin and I went to Chicago on a complete whim to see Chris McCaughan of the Larry Arms play an acoustic set at a coffee shop with Pat Ford from Colossal and some other dudes...it was pretty fucking awesome. Pat seemed a little tense since he was up first, and halfway through his first song someone's cell phone went off...and the bitch answered it! He made fun of her. Stupid whore! Anyway, some guy named Endless Mike played next. He had a song that included him singing part of "Megan" by the Smoking Popes, so I was pretty alright with that aspect of it, but his vocals kinda annoyed me after a couple songs. The lyrics were very good though. And after him, the band he was touring with called Assassinate Caesar played. All I can say about this band is that they sounded like Coheed and Cambria with acoustic guitars and a drum machine. I don't think I need to go any further with that description before you realize "oh god that must have been awful", because it was. Chris played next, and by that time there were like 50 people crammed in this little coffee shop. Neil and Brendan were both in attendance, Brendan sporting a suit with a pink shirt and tie, and Niel in his traditional flannel (the man's a lumberjack, I swear). So he played some songs. Some I've never heard...and a few I might know...by heart.

The setlist:

1. The Treatise
2. Your Self-Portrait
3. Intransit
4. Traffic Haze
5. Joyce Carol Oater (is a boring old biddy)
6. The Sea of Lights
7. A Wishful Puppeteer
8. Burn Out Like Stars
9. Criminal
10. Nebraska (by crowd request)

Don't cry in jealousy, just accept it. mwahaha.

Amazingly, Chris recognized us for some reason. I guess since he wasn't drunk when we saw them back in November at the Congress Theater, he remembered Christin and I. He's such a cool dude, I'd do him. But I'm not gay...I'm just saying. Anywho, I asked him why he mentions my birthday in the song "Overheating" and it's because it's the birthday of an ex-girlfriend. That solves that mystery.

And since this is already a very Lawrence Arms-inspired update, I have to mention that I've been listening to Oh! Calcutta! all day, and it's absolutely fucking awesome and I can't wait to get my hands on a real copy of it so I can read all the lyrics without trying to decipher Brendan's growls.

And hot damn! when it comes to new cds, there are QUITE a few coming out in the next few months that I'll need to purchase. It's gonna be a good year!

Quote of the update:

"Man, it's hot in here, I'm glad I didn't wear my sweatervest!"
-Brendan Kelly
