There's a
cute article in the New York Times about how Alice Waters rescued one Bay Area family from bad eating habits. I especially love the before and after refrigerator shots.
This intervention is obviously a promo stunt for
Waters' new book, but I don't mind. I like the fact she's promoting simple, good eating now. rance used to buy her cookbooks when we lived on the East Coast, but her previous books contained too many ingredients not found easily outside the Bay Area. This new book keeps the ingredients and recipes simple.
One nitpick: the author is identified as living in San Francisco, yet she mentions shopping at Berkeley Bowl. People on the other side of the Bay Bridge have their own Berkeley Bowl equivalents, and I doubt they would drive across the bridge to battle their way through the Bowl's aisles.
One helpful piece of advice: making soup stock is really easy is you purchase a crock pot. rance and I bought a Hamilton Beach for $19 on sale. It didn't have any electronic timer, just a simple knob with three settings--off, low, and high. You can start your stock with veggies or bones and leave with no worry. Plus, we keep our bone broth hot and ready for eating until the time comes to make more broth. We often have broth as part of our breakfast.
