Ivan has been going on about this band for a few years now.. and I finally realize what the fuss is all about. soooo chill.
I first listened to their album, The Clarence Greenwood Recordings, on a train from Munich to Linz. it was raining throughout the trip, the lush, rolling green hills so verdent against the dark grey skies. it was just a nice rainstorm, accompanying us.
I'm pretty sure the song playing was Penitentiary... it just went so well with the mood in the empty train car - save Mary (of course) and the ticket conductor walking by every few stops. I was writing in my journal and just enjoying the mood.. appreciating the beauty of traveling by train for the first time.
but at this moment I'm also feeling Son's Gonna Rise, Sideways and Hurricane Waters.
Something happens when
You're caught searching for an answer
When you're stuck in the middle
Of a place that you don't belong
When you start to lose sight of what's right and wrong
When we started it was innocent
'Cause when we started it was innocent
I will carry you through the hurricane waters
And I'll remember you in the blue skies
Until we meet again
Until it's like it was
Until then
Until the answers start raining down
Citizen Cope ~ Hurricane Waters
I am so happy, so content in this moment...
I could imagine laying out on a cruise ship to this song.. feeling the warm sun on my skin - warm, not like the scorching heat of Texas that I know so well.. warm and comforting. opening my eyes from time to time, ensuring I don't fall asleep and bake, listening to the words and squinting behind my big Burberry sunglasses, watching the people and waiters pass by.. the blue water surrounding my world.
my happy place? floating in the ocean, staring straight up at the blue clouds that are dotted with small puffy cumulus - what I call happy clouds - and listening to the water in my ear, listening to the wave and currents rush around me. sitting up for a second and realizing I am really back in this small piece of beautiful perfection, if only for minutes.
ahhhh, music... :]
music,
