ken was NOT that into seeing it, and in fact he was very quiet for the rest of the day after we left the theater. i'm not really sure that movie was his cup of tea. "it was SO dark" he kept saying.
i agree, but of course we know that going into the movie. what batman movie isn't dark (visually and story-wise)...
but this was exceptionally dark. heath ledger was just so so so scary to me. he definitly tapped into a horribly dark place and just let loose and went for it. an amazing performance. he was like the devil... i went back to thinking about the cliche comic bad guys in different marvel and DC series. there were many people who were evil just for the hell of it, but none of them seemed as evil as the way heath ledger played it. even written.
i kept thinking about heath ledger all the way home, wondering what kind of great roles he would have played.
...my one complaint about the movie was the length.
it was indeed epic. but everytime i felt like they were coming to an end in the storyline there was more movie. i usually would be happy about this, but for some reason it felt disjointed. this seems to be the complaint that is universal amongst critics (now that i've seen the movie i've been reading some reviews)...
each addition to the storyline was great, i have to say. and crucial! but it felt like it could have been condensed a bit into something more...cohesive (?, is that the word i'm looking for?)
see i hate to say that too because each part was beautiful and essential. i would have hated to cut anything out...
maybe i need to watch it again...
bruce is totes a lovely asshole.
