Dark clouds cover the city. They symbolize the flaming skull that has been sort of hovering outside my door for three days, I think. It wants me to let it in but it has yet to properly knock.

I think if it will knock, it will extinguish itself, or possibly crumble. Nevertheless, I'm not going to encourage it to just sulk out there, so until it knocks, it doesn't get in.

It howls sometimes, and when it does, the moon seems to turn green. I take a swig of absinthe and stare the skull down through the screen door. It insists it merely wants to deliver a telegram.

"Then why don't you know?"

Its hollowed cavities look resigned for a moment, and then it howls again. I close the front door and go back into the library.

Lighting up a cigar, I look first over the tomes of poetry. Mostly Poe. I guess my own morbidity is to blame for that monstrosity. You can only read the Cask of Amontillado so many times before someone bricks you into their own cellar.

I stand back up and go back to the door. Skull's stll there. I look at it.

"Can it be a ... singing telegram?"

The skull sighs, somehow I think it hates that request; it acquiesces, though, and I open the door for it.
