The SouthEnder's Childhood Dilemma - A legal way to torture small children?
Do you remember this dilemma, as a little kid, growing up on the beach in Massachusetts? My mother would send us to the shoreline to rinse off our feet before we got into the car with all that sand. Uh................
Are you getting this? Rinse, Put foot back down (on sand). Rinse other foot. Put on sand. Eye the 30 yards back across the hot sand to where she's impatiently waiting off the beach, up the stairs, near the car. Rinse. Put foot back down. Rinse, repeat....
Somewhere, halfway through early childhood, it started to occur to me that SOMEone here was an idiot. Not sure which one. I certainly didn't have the skills at that time to figure out the solution, so maybe I was the idiot. Or was it my mother?
Now that I'm grown up, I wonder if she did this on purpose. I know that's what my savvy, conniving, brilliant son Petey would do to his kids if he had any.... "Go down to the shore, and don't come back up until your feet are free of sand."
But my son would be in the car, reclining, with his feet up on the dashboard, enjoying a good book. An hour of peace and quiet, broken only by the sound of his devious chuckling. Bwah ha ha !
