on calling 911

So last night I was driving home after a night of FUN TIMES, about 1:15 am, and it was snowing really badly. It's been my observation that when driving in Toronto, everybody sucks but me, so I was taking sidestreets instead of the main roads, reasoning that the chance of getting stuck was less than the chance of someone rearending me because they ( Read more... )

Ryan is a hero!

In conclusion: Mythbusters is and always was a terrible show.

You should start a support group for "people who think that Mythbusters actually isn't all that good" because I would totally JOIN THE HELL UP.

You are not alone but I will stand bravely and defend the Mythbusters. Even though they fuck up a lot. They are trying as hard as two special effects geeks can try, Ryan. :(

They should rename the show to "Two Guys And Special Effects" then because every time they "bust" a myth after some really sloppy science I get so much rage

so much

But the bit where they shot a water heater through a house was fun!

I just feel this knee-jerk need to defend them because they are trying to show SOME science SOMEWHERE instead of using em meters and night-vision cameras but I know they are just explody guys mostly.

Their moon hoax episode was pretty ok though! But I was kind of disappointed with it secretly. OH DAMN YOU

I like to interpret the show as more of a statement in support of critical thinking. A lot of people trust the random urban legends that they hear based on crude assumptions about physics/biology/etc., and I trust the show more than I trust those people. I figure that despite the sloppy science, it is the best I can hope for because they get at the general concepts of the myths, no one with more sciency credentials would probably even care about doing that show, and science that was neater or more procedural would probably be more boring. It's- sometimes I just want to watch a cement mixer blow up, OK?

I am with you on this. Sure I don't really listen to there conclusions, but I think they are pretty entertaining. They blow shit up a lot. I especially love it when they are like "well, it didn't work with one stick of dynomite, how about 50?" and then they sink a car.

Also they have access to a minigun and they take advantage of this fact.

Not alone, man! I dislike it too, as do all these dudes and Kate Beaton too apparently! Pretty rad.

Also facebook brings people who dislike stuff together
