Swine flu. Bah. Humbug.
That's all they've talked about on the news for the past week. I think the damn news media's trying to start a panic--or maybe it's just been a slow news week. I dunno. Cleburn ISD canceled classes last week. Why, I have no idea; as far as I know, there were no reported cases of it there. The school I teach my dual-credit classes at interrupted my class for FIFTEEN MINUTES with announcements on how to avoid catching it. I told the kids just don't kiss any pigs and they should be fine. And now Fort Worth has canceled Mayfest! I wasn't planning on going, but still! I hope they don't cancel Scarborough Faire because I am planning on going to that. So far, they haven't.
One of my students came to class on Friday wearing a mask...over his ear. I told him I wasn't a medical professional, but I somehow, I didn't think that would work. The reason he had it over his ear was that he'd written on it with a marker and the fumes were making him sick. I asked why he'd written on it in the first place, but he didn't really have an answer for that. Kids...
I think the whole thing's bullshit. Just like Y2K, the bird flu, and the killer-fucking-bees. Now, having said that, watch me catch that crap and die. That would be ironic, wouldn't it?
In other news...my internet's been down for the past couple of days. I just got it back earlier today. I called Charter, and according to them, there were no outages in our area so I made an appointment to have someone come out to check it. The earliest they could come out would have been Monday, but just as it mysteriously stopped working...it just as mysteriously started again.
And on a final note...the semester is almost over!
