y'know...with a pair of wingtips, and an adventurous cordwainer (like myself), you could probably approximate them by adding a sole to the bottoms of the new shoes, put on in 2 sizes, and wrapped with clear vinyl tubing!
i say this, having recently had to toss a pair i clapped together for myself, when i discovered the soles literally falling apart, as i wore them! i used the same product flip-flops are made of, but didn't have a cement that was compatible with the original sole...they were red on the bottom!
I happened to wear wingtips this morning, at a memorial service for a neighbor on the street where I grew up. I never pay attention to others' footwear, but I'd be willing to bet I was one of two or three in wingtips.
i am going to salvage those shoes i mentioned... the uppers are good, and i have an idea for retro-lasting shoes i want to try.
with all the horrible soles being used, these days, there are many that i have no cement for, and put actors health at risk, daily! if i can replace them with something cooperative, hooray!
i could use nails if i sew on a flange to stick an innersole to...it might just be too much work!
i bought a pair of interim boots, so i could dress rigoletto, without tripping on the soles that were falling off... i really need t go clothes shopping!

It helps to hear negative feedback like that. I'll be over those shoes in no time. :)
