"If you've heard this story before, don't stop me, because I'd like to hear it again" - Groucho Marx

'I shouldn't have let him go,' John lectured the emptiness in the slightest possibility that someone was still listening to him. He pointed his fingers, shook his fists, slowly shrugged his shoulder-muscles in self-loathing. Fragments of skeleton poked through the catacombic cavern-wall like pottery at an archaeological dig, or so he thought. Were they really the bones of all who tried to outsmart Benjamin Linus, or merely the ones lurking in his own wardrobe, sulking?

Well at least they gave a half-assed damn. He couldn't see any of the others here to help him with this, not even after he'd hunted boar for Kate, fixed tools with Sayid, rocked Claire's son to sleep when she was too tired. With Jacob's wandering cabin still on the move, then maybe, just maybe he was here. And he would realise what darkly depths his mind had succumbed to. But the chances were unlikely.

To think like Ben - that was the key. He'd set the boulder rolling again, the wrecking ball which had destroyed him, throwed its weight around for long enough. As he'd said, it was exactly the same as before, with him in a different room, and Locke more lost than he'd ever been. So now was the right time to break that cycle. He only wondered why he felt so bitter about it. Pulling up the chair in the centre, he sat down to read the material he'd left there from his adversary's own bookshelf. And winced as the landing light went off, the taste of blood and breakfast still freshly-kissed on his regretful lips.
