Дарвин: "Я никогда не был атеистом", а также "первая клетка и Творец"
Из обсуждения недавнего фэйла в МИФИ и очередного флейма про взаимоотношения науки и религии:

Ради интереса можете поискать, сколько раз и в каком контексте упоминается слово "Creator" в "Происхождении видов". Если вкратце, то Дарвин оставляет Творцу только установление физических законов природы, а всё остальное, в т.ч. и жизнь, суть явления, вызванные вторичными причинами: "To my mind it accords better with what we know of the laws impressed on matter by the Creator, that the production and extinction of the past and present inhabitants of the world should have been due to secondary causes, like those determining the birth and death of the individual." (c) там же, стр. 488

Что интересно, первое издание "Происхождения видов" заканчивается фразой:
There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed into a few forms or into one; and that, whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved.

, а во втором Дарвин таки добавил "by the Creator" на страницах 484 и 490, в третьем же и последующих Творец остался только на последней странице. Похоже, после первого издания Дарвину и редакторам пришлось несладко, а после второго немного стыдно :)
