136 - "Every parting from you is like a little eternity."

"Do not leave me," Evelia Synclare whispered to Griogair before she kissed him, arms wrapped around him tightly as if that alone would stop him from returning to his estate. In her heart, she knew he would have to go, though, just as she would have to return home to care for her father.

"One day, I will stay with you," she swore, as she began to dress herself. Her gown had been tossed aside in the meadow where they would typically meet, and she wiped a tear from her face. "One day, you'll take me home with you and I will spend the eve in your arms, in your bed."

She didn't see the look on her lover's face as she turned and walked home.

Gregor de Coleuille had arranged for a carriage to take Lady Evangeline de Sainte Clare away from the party, and once she was within the confines of it, her mouth sought out his. She had been thinking of his lips and the feel of them, brushing lightly against her hand as he bowed to her. The way they formed words while the pair of them played a game of chess, battling one another with will. Oh, her reputation was ruined by now, for she had been seen brazenly kissing the man.

Once he had left her, though, Lady Evangeline felt as though she would die. How could he spin his tale to her of dreams and soulmates, and yet she believed every word of it?

"Tell me again," she panted against his lips, "of how we are destined for one another, and how you will never leave my side."

He smiled before he kissed her, then repeated the tale.

The honeymoon was over, but Evelyn Sinclair didn't want to let go of her husband's hand. She was, frankly, afraid. Now that she knew the truth about why she kept dying, leaving Gregory alone... waiting for her soul to reincarnate itself into another body, another version of herself, she just... didn't want to let go.

"I love you." She squeezed his hand as his private jet left Vienna and began to fly them back to the States. She still had her job, after all, but Evelyn was worried there was something between them now; that by pushing so hard, the cute, sweet love they had was gone.

"Love you, Greg," Evelyn yawned as she fell asleep against his shoulder, glad that finally there were no dreams that bothered her.
