Ahh...the day. Ahh.

Today I went to the National Building Museum on 5th and E NW. There were some really cool exhibits there. It's sort of the National museum of architecture. Most interesting was the "Liquid Stone" exhibit on concrete as an architectural tool. Most amazing about this particular exhibit was a block of concrete (about 3.5'x5'x10") standing in the middle of the floor oriented in such a way that sunlight fell on one side of it. When someone stood on the lighted side, their shadow was clearly and acutely visible on the dark side. The concrete is perfectly translucent, even at ten inches thick. It has many tiny glass fibers inlaid in it so light is transmitted. It's amazing.

Stopped for some lunch in Chinatown (or Chinablock as Shauna calls it, due to it's almost embarrasing smallness). It was mediocre.

Went home and hung out until work at Cosi, where I was a server. Business was slow, so I was sent home.

Instead of going home, I stayed and hung out with one of our regulars, a young woman who always orders a large English Breakfast. We talked (wrote, rather) for about an hour and a half. She told me that she is from Stockholm and is now studying art history at Gaullaudet U. (a deaf college up the street from me). She showed me some of her drawings, which were really very good.

Left. I brought with me a cup of coffee for my friend the cop in the unmarked car. When I offered it to him he declined:

"Hey, would you like a cup of coffee?" I asked as the officer rolled down the window. "I see you guys out here everynight and I thought you might like some coffee."
"Oh, no thanks man, I'm trying to cut down on my caffeine intake," he said, looking a little confusedly surprised. "Thanks, though."
"Gotcha. 'Night!"

I think that he maybe meant that he was trying to cut down on his poisoned coffee from strangers intake. And really, who could blame him. The man's got a job to do and he can't just go around accepting coffee from potential assassins.

Came home, had some cake, talked to my fam (and slipped in some advice for a congressional campaign my mother is running). Now to bed.

Exist!
