I'm going home today! I am rather excited about that if you couldn't tell. I always like going home, although the amount I enjoy going home depends on the time of the year. By far my favorite time to go home is in late fall. The months of October and November, especially Thanksgiving. There is something about walking in from a brisk 50 degree fall day into a warm home that just seems very right. Also the hot apple cider and the peach cobbler add to the comfort. Why am I talking about this is on the first of July?
Work is going okay even though it is kind of slow. The project is interesting, but it isn't what I wanted to do for more than a summer. It just isn't my thing, possibly because of the Chemistry aspect. I'm lacking in some of the Chemistry to really understand what is going on. Pretty much what I'm doing is using modeling software and making optical systems to look at the little things we make. I am happy that the people that I work with (Grad Students and other REUs) are really cool. That makes it easier. Speaking of graduate school, I am going to start studying for the GRE soon. I plan on taking it some time in September.
I'm reading "QED" now. It is four lectures about Quantum Electro-Dynamics. Yes I'm a nerd and no I don't care! It is about the interactions of light and matter. It is a very basic introduction, but it was given by Richard Feynman, who is really good at taking complicated things and reducing them down to the basics. It is a short book and I think I'm going to read more of the short works of Mark Twain after this. That or the second Dark Tower book.
