Autumnal

Drove up to the Swan Valley Carilley Estate to eat a leisurely lunch of prawns and prosciutto, camembert and crab, smoked salmon and salami washed down with the Carilley sparkling red. We had a table overlooking the rows of now-yellowing vines, clusters of relict shiraz grapes turning to sultanas thereupon. The boys love lunch out and they were very, very good. Both of the wait-staff commented on their beautiful manners. :)

Carilley is recommended, as I think I have mentioned before, not only for the fact that it does a sparkling red, but it also has a play area, a boules/bocci court and a kids' menu AND it is easier to get a table there than at the more famous Lamont's which is about 5 mins down the road.

I love autumn. I like the colours and the smell of burning vine clippings and the hint of coolness in the air. Dining out in autumn doubles the pleasure; I like it even more when I can smell an earthy sparkling shiraz and the tinge of garlic and warm bread in the air.
