Xmas 2008
06:00 Kids wake up
06:05-06:30 Giggling from bedrooms as pillowcases are unstuffed and little gifts are discovered.
06:30ish First fight of day. I yell for quiet and try to get back to sleep.
07:05 X gives up on sleep, goes to keep the peace and make some coffee.
07:10 X has bought Curls a "flarp" machine. This is a euphemism. Sounds of mechanised flatulence fill the house.
08:00ish Spike comes into bedroom and plays with DS right next to my ear and it is useless to pretend sleep anymore.
08:15 Swill coffee and try to be festive.
08:30-09;30 Gift unwrapping. We are strict about disposing of paper after each gift is unwrapped and also about appreciating each gift for a certain amount of time before ripping into the next. I personally score; cocktail scented bubble bath, tickets to see Dylan Moran in April, a mandarin-coloured carnival glass bowl and a ring from Danish jewellers "Pilgrim".Spike thrilled with "Mighty Boosh" stuff and does a crimp while holding a polo to his eye. Spike has cooking stuff - kitchen scales, bake set, Spongebob toaster, two cookbooks, Jamie Oliver DVD. X is very pleased with his "Richard Thompson/Kevin Coyne/Procul Harum" memorabilia.
09:35 Curls starts on the breakfast (mushrooms and sour dough) and also helps X begin lunch.
10:00 Breakfast
10:15 Everyone gets dressed.
10:30 Dad comes over and takes kids off our hands for an hour.
10:30-11:30 We drink a quiet Xmas cocktail and listen to Suffian Stevens and his banjo-laden Xmas efforts.
11:30ish Dad brings kids home. Watch an episode of "Mighty Boosh".
12:00 Lunch; not as fancy as we'd planned because of my time in hospital. Curls has chosen roast lamb and potatoes and it is fine. I do love mint sauce on everything.
13:00 or thereabouts. Lunch finished. Tired now. Lie on sofa while Curls watches Jamie.
14:00 X takes boys and heads to his mum's house. I sleep. It is quiet and cool in the bedroom and I am still catching up on missed sleep from the night before.
17:00 Woken by phone. It's X, they are running late because Spike is making a "Gundam" model with his cousin.
17:40 X and kids return.
18:00 Head for beach.
18:20 Boys swim despite the fact that this Xmas day is a LOT cooler than average (26C - a whole 20C cooler than the same day last year)
19:30 Arrive home; snack on junk - we received 2 hampers this year and added to the Xmas treats we have bought and made ourselves, there is much unhealthy stuff in the cupboard.
20:30 Watch seasonal Tv ("Ever After")
22:30 Watch "Graham Norton" show. Kids are still awake and watching with me. Oops.
22:40 Kids to bed.
23:00 Me to bed, happy to have got through the day.
