Prolific Author Series: Aurette

"From our very first interaction, my conversations with Aurette were wacky and delightful. From Magritte to sex toys that should NOT fall apart to roommates who shove garlic up their no-no boxes, our friendship has kept me lawling since late 2008. But she's more than just a quick wit and clever turn of phrase. Girl's got a tender heart and a ( Read more... )

I've been playing this quiz for more than a year now... but I have never commented before. Why now? Because Aurette is my favourite fanfic writer and for the first time I think I've got the answers to the quiz without cheating. Why is she so special? All her stories are well conceived, brilliantly plotted (even the ones that are not supposed to have a plot seem to have a plot!) and most of them are scorchingly hot. Oh, and funny. There have been many occasions when I have burst out laughing on the Tube while reading. (Incidentally should thank Aurette for this... British people seem to view that sort of behaviour as being close to deviant and so I am usually left alone to enjoy my journey without distraction or disturbance.) More than anything, her characters are beautifully realised. They feel 'real' (even the ones who are only visible in wierd colours on one night of the year... or appear to be channelling Dark Magic, because the other stuff has temporarily vanished from the earth). Here goes. Fingers crossed and hoping for a shiny new banner...: Extract 1 is from her marvellous dystopian fantasy The Princess of Gryffindor, and 2 is taken from Master Spy (the scene when Snape vanishes the floor when high on Muggle Painkillers caused people to move their seats to get away from me). 3 is from the recently relocated Practical Solutions. 4 is from Jitters (see comment about 2). 5 is an extact from my favourite 'long story' The Caretaker' (the nose job scene... "She hates me"... lovely!), 6 from the wonderful Babble On. 7 is the only one of her stories in which I see AR as Snape when I read it - Needs Must. 8 is from Yea Though I Walk (what a prompt!), 9 from the detailed and intriguing Of Muggles And Magic, and 10 is taken from the Tube-clearing-there's-a-mad-woman-snorting-into-her-phone story Side Effects. Did I get it right?
