1. They all seem so happy, swapping jokes as they dig into their pork chops with relish, whereas she feels sickly and sleep-deprived, avoiding Harry's gaze even as he smiles at her and asks if she's had a good day.

If you call losing your virginity a good day. Oh, and by the way Harry, you lost your virginity, too. Here's to popped cherries.

She excuses herself from the table. Returns to her room and falls onto the bed fully clothed, dropping at once into a thick, desperate sleep.

But a good night's sleep solves nothing; she wakes to the same ache, the same hunger. She's Pandora, still holding open a box full of nightmares. This is how she feels at first, anyway, certain she's trapped in a dream from which she cannot wake; but the surreal nature of it fades after a time. Soon it's nothing more than a private routine, something as innocuous as getting off on a long, lazy afternoon. A little secret something between her mind and her body. On a String by Miss Mopet

2. Where did you disappear to after you died?

That’s what I want to ask him. But this Severus Snape wouldn’t know-he’s never even met Harry Potter or Hermione Granger. Not yet.

I should get up and leave, I tell myself again. But I’m frozen in my seat, staring at his long fingers curled around the edge of the newspaper; the way the hem of his robe has lifted slightly to reveal the toes of dragon hide boots. I smile. When I was a first-year at Hogwarts, Snape was… terrifying and so intimidating. After the incident in the bathroom with the troll, when Harry and Ron started being friendly rather than avoiding me, they’d told me their theory about how they thought Snape didn’t have feet… how they thought he floated instead. It’s ironic that they were right, in a fashion; Snape did know how to fly, in the end. I sigh softly. I miss Harry and Ron. Sometimes I wish that I could tell them what I really do; that I’m not doing ‘secret Charms research’ for a private magical company. I’d love to take them on one of my trips. Over the years I’ve come to realise that adventure and Travel is very lonely when you’ve got nobody to share it with. The Traveller by Somigliana

3. Hermione yawned as she made her way through the stacks. She had come to the library immediately after she had dressed, and had then spent the rest of the day ferrying books to her room and avoiding contact with the students. She feverishly searched the titles, hoping to be out of the library by the time dinner ended.

She stroked the serpent on her watch unconsciously. It had become a strange source of comfort for her, almost as if it were a companion. The cool, slightly rough texture of the scales made her fingertips tingle.

She was deep in the middle of the Potions section of the library when a thickly-bound, gold-stamped book caught her eye.

Potions and Time-Travel

She Summoned the book to her, but it barely budged. Shaking her head, she tried again. This time, it did not move at all. Mustering all her resolve, she cast the spell once more.

4. When he re-entered the Hospital Wing quite early the next morning, Severus’ movements did not go unnoticed. On closing the door with the softest of thuds, which he privately thought was quite an achievement given the castle’s heavy, Medieval-style doors, Athena’s head immediately popped up from behind the inert lump that was Hermione Granger. On seeing him, she quickly scrambled out of bed and leapt into his arms, trying (but failing) to speak softly.

‘Shh, Daddy. Remember what happened last time we woke Mummy?’

Intrigued, but deciding the story could wait, Severus lightly chided the girl. ‘Good morning is a rather more suitable greeting, is it not, Athena?’

‘Yes, yes,’ replied the child impatiently. ‘Good morning, Daddy.’ She then continued, ‘Mummy and I are friends again, and she’s not angry with me, so can we all go home this morning? I don’t want to stay with Aunt Ginny anymore.’ In All Her Wisdom by paisleysnail f/k/a mw87

5. “I think this may have been the night Voldemort was defeated,” she whispered.

“Voldemort?” the Doctor questioned.

Hermione gave them a quick synopsis of the struggles that had finally ended five years ago in the epic battle she had been reliving in nightmares ever since, though not once did she think she might actually have to be present at the battle for a second time. She shuddered as she described the evil acts Voldemort had accomplished and found herself choked up when recounting the casualties of the final battle. Her companions listened in silence.

After Hermione finished telling her tale, the Doctor nodded. “Right. I think we should move forward and find out who we can help. But Hermione - we can’t change the events of history.” Rose nodded with some vigor at this statement. “The ones who die must die. You will still prevail. We simply must find who is calling for help and why the TARDIS responded.” Five Years Later by stliteaphrodite

6. Severus awoke the next morning feeling more refreshed than he had in years. He remembered the night before and looked for his mystery woman. He looked out his bedroom window-one that looked over the neighboring estate's lawn-and saw a small bundled up creature playing in the snow. He could see her taking in the delights of the snow, laughing as the snowflakes landed on her nose and eyelashes. He could feel that she was familiar, but he couldn't say as to how.
A house-elf popped into the room, startling Severus out of his reverie. Before he could say anything, the elf said, "Mistress Snape is wanting you to come to the library."
He waved the elf off and quickly dressed, curious as to what his mother wanted. He entered the library and stopped short when he saw his mother and his-and he almost hesitated to think it-woman were cordially talking and drinking tea. He sat in a chair catty-corner to the settee they were sharing and poured a cup of tea. He slowly sipped the brew as he watched the women from under his lashes.
"Severus? Were you listening to anything we were saying?"
He set his cup on his saucer. He gave a small smile and answered honestly. "No, I wasn't paying any attention to what you were talking about. I was enjoying the lovely picture you ladies were making."

7. With a growl of repressed infuriation, Snape shoved his younger-self into the nearest guest bedroom. Seconds before slamming the door in a petulant fit of anger, Snape reminded himself that Hermione was in the next room and needed as much quiet rest as possible.

Once the door had been silently shut, Snape pressed his forehead against it, willing himself to control his temper. “I should have known better than to leave you alone with her. It wasn’t even a quarter of an hour-I asked you to watch her, not fondle the woman in her sleep!”

“She had a nightmare.”

“She always has nightmares!” Snape whirled around with a snarl. Ready to hurl a stream of expletives, he clenched his jaw instead as he watched the young man pull his shaking hand through greasy hair.

“You say that to me like I should already be aware… And I didn’t fondle her! She thought I was you.”

“No shite.”

The boy began to pace in obvious anxiety. “She talked in her sleep. Malfoy. Bellatrix. She even called the Dark Lord by his name.”

Severus groaned, turning his face away from his younger-self’s expectant gaze. He’d only wanted to… prevent… a few things. Bound to Happen by Battle of Lissa

8. Snape sat back and crossed his arms. “As a matter of fact, Jacob Goodfellow exploded a cauldron and soaked half the class in burn paste.”

“Oh, no!” Hermione cried. “Did you get doused too?”

Snape scowled. “No, I was one of the ‘lucky ones.’” He accentuated his last words with his fingers forming quotation marks in the air.

Hermione giggled. Sobering, she looked at Snape lustfully. “I’ve been thinking about you all day,” she said sultrily.

“You… you have?” Snape asked incredulously.

“Mmm hmm. I kept thinking of you kissing me. I was hoping we could continue where we left off last night.”

Snape’s mouth dropped open. He snapped it shut as his eyes widened. “Umm… uhh… yeah.”

Severus felt a swift kick at his leg from an invisible source on his left.

Hermione’s eyebrows knit together. “Are you upset with me?” she asked.

“Why would you say that?”

“You seem a bit hesitant. Do you regret what happened last night?” Hermione’s gaze showed some fear as her lip pouted out.

“No… no… of course not. I’m just… I’m just not used to discussing such things in public.” If Only I Could Turn Back Time by debjunk

9. "Helda Hufflepuff's quarters at Hogwarts," came the no-nonsense reply. "You fainted on the doorstep."
As soon as he'd said it I remembered, and I blushed with embarrassment. "I thought it was Mrs. Weasley," I explained. "Even though the clothes were all funny. Does she know who I am? Why I'm here? Does she know about you?"
Professor Snape had the temerity to chuckle at me. "One question at a time will do nicely," he said. "Mother Hufflepuff and I have met, and I have told her our story, after a fashion."
"Mother Hufflepuff?" I repeated, partly because I couldn't imagine him calling anyone by such a name, and partly to taste the sound of it. "What is our story, Professor?"
"Severus," he corrected, watching carefully to see my reaction. "She knows we are from the future, and that we are teacher and student," he said. "I could not tell her of the battle."
I understood immediately. "Mustn't pollute the timeline," I said.
"Precisely. I am afraid she jumped to a much nastier conclusion than me being a war victim, however." Finishing the Job by Missmelysse

10. "But when you look at it logically, his death didn't do anything to affect the outcome of the war. He truly didn't have to die."

"Neither did Ron or Fred or Ginny."

"The whole war was an exercise in waste and stupidity, alright?" It wasn't like Hermione to snarl, and she immediately put her hand up to her mouth. "I'm sorry, Harry. I shouldn't snap at you like that."

"Don't worry about it." He waved away her apology. "I keep thinking unnecessary, unnecessary."

"I do, too."

The room was entirely silent, save the crackling of the fire and the sounds of their breathing, amplified in the absolute quiet of the Common Room.

"Hermione, what would you change if you could-go back?"

A sound very like a sigh escaped her lips. When she spoke, her words flowed easily, as if they'd been waiting for the chance to escape. "I'd go all the way back, Harry. I'd go back to when he met your mum, or at least to when he came to Hogwarts, and I'd be his friend. I'd even ask the house to sort me in Slytherin if that's what it took to keep him from taking the Dark Mark."

"Would it be that easy?" His Muggle Born Witch by fizzabella1110
