1. They heard the ward alarm, which had been set to alert those in the house to the presence of visitors. The Snape girls raced up the steps to the solarium, and threw the door open to see who had arrived.

Hermione was getting her bearings when the solarium door banged open, and two tow-headed girls erupted from the house; simultaneously, she heard her name shouted, and whirled to see Harry and Ron racing across from the house whose back garden shared a common gated fence with the Black house.

She was laughing and hugging her best friends before she caught her breath properly, then she turned to greet the unfamiliar girls in the solarium doorway, who were looking a bit uncomfortable in the presence of the young wizards.

"Hullo," Hermione said with her friendliest Head-Girl smile. "I'm Hermione Granger."

The older girl spoke up. "We know! Ginny has photographs of you in her room." This young lady cast a look at the boys. "Of all of you, really."

Harry stepped forward and held out his hand. "Hi, I'm Harry. His Draught of Delicate Poison by Subvers

2. Everybody liked knowing things but most people didn’t enjoy the time and effort it took to learn them, except Hermione Granger: she did enjoy the process. Severus’s smirk deepened at the thought that he had just capitalized on that fact. After teaching the girl for seven years, he knew the way to her heart was not through the smooth flattery that Lucius Malfoy was offering her. All Severus had to do was to wait until they were alone and dangle potions research in front of her like a carrot.

After they left the lab, he had suggested a picnic lunch in a few days time, and then he had sweetened the deal by mentioning a site in which he harvested a number of important potions ingredients. The young woman’s eyes had lit up with excitement. And so, Severus Snape was now smirking in triumph, as he had already had one outing with her and another one planned. He had a very distinct advantage over the other men trying to court her. She would be his in no time.

3. “You’ve come to ask me to allow you to court my Hermione - how do you expect to support her on a schoolteacher’s pittance?”

“Doctor Granger, I do hold land and the title of Baron Snape of Snapington. I am hardly destitute.”

“Oh ho! Lord Snape! You, of course, intend marriage?”

“Nothing less shall satisfy me. Your daughter is a gifted witch and a becoming young lady.”

Doctor Granger looked Snape over carefully. “Very well, then. I’ll permit you to court my daughter,” he said, pointedly adding, “properly chaperoned.”

Severus nodded. “Of course. I shall be the very soul of propriety.” The Courting of Hermione by Peppermint a/k/a voxangelus

4. ‘You’re expected at dinner, of course, and you’ll probably have to suffer through felicitations then, but I wanted to give you your present now. It’s cold outside, after all, and I thought it might warm you up ... make you more comfortable.’

Apparently, she had not completely ditched her habit of rambling when she was ill at ease. He raised a sarcastic eyebrow, and she cleared her throat, cheeks colouring slightly.

Gesturing to a basket on his desk, she repeated, ‘Happy birthday.’

He was taken aback by her warm lips on his cheek. She was gone before he remembered to breathe. Happy Birthday Severus by Keladry_Lupin

5. “Sauntering are we?” His voice, barely above a whisper and slightly derogatory as always, slid over her tympanic membrane like a silken kerchief.

Many years ago, before age had proved to her that physical beauty did not equate to a good man, she had wondered how someone so deficient in looks could sound so seductive.

They knew each other now, and Hermione refrained from replying that she had thought more in terms of stalking her prey.

Instead she smiled snidely and said, “You are quite mistaken if you thought I was idling here by chance. On the contrary, I am here to tell you that I have knowingly robbed you of your anticipated pastime of tonight.” She paused for effect. “We broke up two weeks ago.” Her smile turned triumphant as she searched his face for any sign that she had been right in her assumptions.

His response left her no wiser on that point. With an air of studied bewilderment, the black-clad wizard retorted, “And to what do these accusations pertain?” Trial and Trepidationby Loves23Rules

6. Sir Lucius Malfoy gave a final thrust into the trembling heap beneath him. He rolled off of her and looked into the red-rimmed eyes.

“Perhaps that will teach you not to backtalk your elders and betters.”

Ginny Weasley sniffed, “I’m very sorry, Lucius. I didn’t mean to. Please forgive me. Please don’t leave me…”

Malfoy got up and started putting on his clothes. “Whether I stay or go, mon enfant, is not up to you. You are fortunate that I have need of you, or you would be in the gutter where you belong.

“Now, I plan to have you start up a friendship with Lady Snape. The blackmail has gone better than expected. I thought I’d be called out when my note to the blushing bride on her wedding day was intercepted by that dastard Snape. Instead, I managed to convince him that I’d been having an affair with the chit and she’d only married him because she feared she’d be found out.”

Malfoy did a little dance of sheer joy. “Can you imagine? The moron didn’t even bother to bed her on his own wedding night; instead he got drunk with me and then headed off to his country estate the very next day sans girl. Ha! Lord Snape’s Dilemma by April Grey

7. Do they teach medicine at Hogwarts?" Hermione blurted again. She sank her teeth into her lip to try and stem her stupidity and poor manners.
"Hermione," her mother pleaded. "I'm sure if they did, it would still not be a part of the curriculum they offer to young ladies. Tell, her, Master Snape. Tell her about the subjects she would be partaking in."
Snape caught her eye, and for the briefest moment, she felt like she might fall into his gaze.
"History, Mathematics, Science, Horticulture, Charm, Greek, Latin, French, Dance, Music, and Deportment."
Silence filled the room and Master Snape cocked his head to the side as if wondering what he had done wrong.
"That is a lot of education for a girl," Mr. Granger said with no small amount of awe in his voice. "Master Snape, I am going to ask again why my Hermione? Why have we never heard of this school before? Surely it would make waves with such a broad and, dare I say, a nearly scandalous amount of learning opportunities for young women?"

8. Hermione led the way outside and blinked momentarily as the sunlight hit her eyes with its morning intensity. Stopping suddenly, she was jostled by Severus bumping into her, knocking the bookbag onto the pavement. One seam broke and a number of books fell out, littering the ground with covers of various colours.
"Oh dear," Hermione moaned as she stooped to start picking them up.
"Let me help you…you seem to have an awful lot of reading material packed into this one bookbag," Severus remarked. "You do realize that they have limitations?"
"Yes, unfortunately," Hermione sighed as she tried to pick up her notes and her quills.
Severus and Hermione were both crouched on the ground; absorbed in their task of picking up all the dropped articles when they both reached out to pick up one small volume. Their hands touched the small book at the same time.
And, in the blink of an eye…they both vanished.
Draco Malfoy, cackling gleefully, walked towards the abandoned bookbag and the lone book still lying on the pavement.
"Now, I will cast this volume onto a nice bonfire and enjoy the thought of having destroyed the two people I despise the most," he thought to himself as he approached. Ex Libirsby Strega Brava

9. ‘Before things have a chance to progress, Hermione, I need to tell you something.’

‘Of course. Honesty is important.’ She felt her stomach flutter with anticipation, and she bit down on her lower lip a little too hard.

He smiled warmly at her, grateful that she was willing to listen to him. She was still a good friend after all this time. Perhaps it wouldn’t be difficult after all. ‘Yes. Honesty. I feel it important to point out that I am not the boy with whom you grew up. I’ve changed.’

‘Obviously, Harry. You’re confident now, less easy to aggravate.’

‘Not just that.’ He didn’t elaborate, but rather led her to a bench under a shady tree.

‘What are you trying to say?’ She sat on the bench next to him, watching his face change from friendly and open to guarded in an instant.

‘Your father rang today, Hermione, as I’m sure you’re aware. I think he expects me to court you.’

‘Yes, he believes we are suited.’ Hermione frowned.

‘I’m not sure what you expect of me...’

‘What does that mean, Harry?’

‘I can offer you friendship, but I’m afraid a romance between us is impossible.’ He observed her for a moment, though he gleaned nothing. Her face remained impassive; the upward curl of her lips had not changed. Coming to Termsby luvsev

10. "I suppose I might congratulate you on your role at Machu Picchu."
"You might."
"According to Severus, it was quite a bit more extensive than the Daily Prophet reports."
"I do not read the Prophet."
"Severus seems to quite admire you - in a professional capacity, of course."
"Of course."
"Yes, he speaks of you highly. I have never heard him speak so glowingly of a colleague - from the Muggle world, anyway."
"It is kind of him to make an exception for me."
"Miss Granger, I consider myself a modern witch. Like my father, I do not hold to the prejudices of the past."
"That is good of you."
"But I do hope you understand that Severus belongs to a more ancient world." They had reached the pond, and Caroline turned to face her. In hushed tones, she continued. "There are certain unfortunate rumors that have made their way to me. I find it unlikely you have not heard them as well. You seem a nice sort of girl and I would hate to have you hurt by them."
"You may rest easy, Miss Fudge. Few rumors reach me here."
"Nonetheless, I feel it is my duty to forewarn you, should it ever come to pass that they do." Caroline paused for a moment. "Miss Granger, no one from the Snape line steps outside the ancient ways. Not even Augustus."
Hermione laughed. "I have no designs on Augustus." Potions & Prejudice by slipperballoon
