Day Two
Day Two, Summer Intensive Program for underserved youth
1. My troublesome advisee snuck into a teacher's room last night and was subsequently sent home indefinitely.
2. Someone sprayed shampoo and shaving cream all over everything last night, so now the boys have to be in bed by 9:15. We'll see how that goes.
3. I did not, however, send this advisee out of evening study, and managed to keep him somewhat restrained.
4. Taught two great classes today.
5. Scored a goal in water polo.
6. I passed the ball to my troubled advisee, who proceeded to make three goals off my assist. Praised him.
7. Did not score goals, make passes, or do anything else useful in football. What is offsides? What is shotgun? In spite of my worthlessness I LOVE football. It has arcane rules. It's all about gaining and losing grounds. There are these neat code words. You get to pull people's flags off.
8. Stared at the computer for several minutes at a time. It's the "working with middle schoolers" stare. My propensity to stop in mid-thought and stare off into space is what made this journal a necessity, now almost two years ago.
9. Please comment. I crave the outside world.
