I'm so so so so sad.

Press statement from Dave Lawrence (January 16, 2008)
KPOI 105.9 terminated me on Tuesday, January 15, 2008 just after 12pm. I was called into a meeting with General Manager John Aeto and Director of Programming Brock Whaley. John Aeto told me they would make it “short and sweet” and that “today is your last day here.” They said they wanted my keys to the building and computers, and while I would be escorted into the studio to collect my personal items, I was not allowed to touch any of the computers or equipment. Mr. Aeto’s response to being asked why I was being terminated was “It’s just time… I’m just terminating you” and that the station was “moving in a different direction.” When asked how I could be let go despite my ratings (which are consistently KPOI’s highest, dramatically out-performing the station) and more than five years of commitment to 105.9, Mr. Aeto said “Dave, I need your keys… I really don’t want to talk to you about anything.” That is the explanation given for my termination.
I will miss my listeners and greatly appreciate them. They can stay in touch with me at the fan site

Wayne Harada is pissed too.
Dave Lawrence was the best thing about driving home after work. He's the ultimate guy groupie. He loves music, loves bands, knows everyone, gets all kinds of people to do interesting interviews. We were lucky to have someone with that kind of passion on our tiny island. I hope someone else will pick him up, but there aren't any other classic rock stations on the island. He is like the cool geeky best friend that everyone wish they had.
Lately I've been listening to Alice at Nights because I leave work so late. I guess I'm not listening to that anymore. Because I'm like that.
