Just joined this lovely comm and thought I'd bring some gifts.
Story: Royal Blood by Darcie (PG)
Summary: A case of mistaken identity leads the Doctor and Rose into a puzzling, disturbing situation. Their determination to make things right, however, may cost all involved dearly...

Reason for recommendation: Darcie specializes in tight plots and vivid original characters. This story has several downright masterful twists and turns; you can't predict where it'll go next, but everything comes together in such a logical way that the story holds together beautifully. I recommend any of Darcie's longer stories for anyone who wants a story that feels like a lost episode of the series. Her characterization is gorgeous, especially of Rose. This is the Rose we knew and loved--clever, compassionate, tough and principled.
Story: Pulse by Casira (R)
Summary: Sometimes even mischievous questions can have heartbreaking answers. Features the Doctor, Rose, and the question of just what makes him so different from humans after all....

Reason for recommendation: It's so easy to forget that the Doctor's not human. This story's told entirely from his pov as he tries and fails to resist temptation regarding Rose. The answer he gives to her questions just leaves her with more. Casira's writing is always beautiful, but in this story, she outdoes herself. It's both sexy and sad, underlining how very alone the Doctor is, even with Rose, because there are things she'll never understand about him.
Story: So You Had a Bad Day by SCAngel (PG-13)
Summary: Just why did the Doctor look so cranky coming out of the TARDIS in Love and Monsters?

Warnings: Naughtiness, nothing too graphic
Reason for recommendation: Just about anything of SCAngel's is worth reading, but this one just doesn't get enough love. I mean, honestly--how can you not love a fic that contains the line, "It was a sad state of affairs when a Time Lord couldn’t finish a rousing game of Naked Hide and Seek in his own TARDIS without being interrupted"?
Story: Shadowed by Saganami Dreams(General)
Summary: When you are alone in the dark, you adapt or you die.
Characters/Pairings: Nine/Rose/Jack
Categories: Hurt/comfort
Warnings: Angst
Reason for recommendation: My absolute favorite piece of hurt/comfort fic. You're never quite sure of what specifically happened to Rose, mainly because she's not entirely clear on it herself--only that whatever it is has locked her inside her own mind, deeply traumatized. Her journey back to herself, aided by the uncompromising love of the Doctor and Jack, is both painful and beautiful. I tend to read it whenever I'm in need of some comfort myself.
Story: Tea in the Sahara by diannelamerc (NC-17)
Summary: Rose makes the mistake of accompanying the boys on a world where women are considered lower than animals.
Characters/Pairings: Nine/Rose, Jack, with an option of OT3 in the future
Categories: Drama, romance
Warnings: Graphic sex
Reason for recommendation: It's funny, it's sexy, everyone's in character and there's great sex at the end. What's not to love? Rose makes a serious error in judgment, which Jack has to rescue her from, leading to misconceptions on the part of the Doctor, who's too damn stubborn to listen to sense, and Jack has had quite enough of the sexual tension and resolves things in only the way Jack can: by almost literally throwing Rose at the Doctor so they can work things out. In bed. But honestly, the plot's more interesting than that. Plus, diannelamerc is one of those authors who really has the gift of smut; her love scenes are truly sexy. Enjoy!
