...Or the Sharks frittered away a commanding 3-0 series lead?
After falling behind three games to none in their series, including being outscored by an outrageous 17-8 margin in the first three games, the Kings came back to win the last four games (and outscored the Sharks by an equally outrageous 18-5 margin) to take the series. The Kings are only the fourth team in NHL history to have accomplished that feat.
So why is it that some writers choose to put the focus on the Sharks for losing this series? Already I am seeing articles suggesting the Sharks' lack of postseason success is eating away at the team's psyche-whatever that means.
I mean, I get it. A 3-0 series lead is almost insurmountable. But when a team manages to beat the odds, shouldn't the spotlight be on the amazing comeback? Comparatively speaking, teams fritter away leads far more frequently. Why kick the losers when they are already down?
Perhaps it really is true that we build up our heroes only to tear them down later. Being a Kings fan, I would rather focus on the ones who defy the odds. They are the ones who won the series, after all.
