(I'm re-writing this because livejournal fails at life and spazzed out and didn't save my draft. *sigh* Story of my life.)
So I'd thought I'd jump on the bandwagon and toss in my two cents about the recent Torchwood radio plays.
When "Lost Souls" first came out I was super excited for all the ones that were going to follow. It was....really good. The plot was original and exciting and the characters were written wonderfully. Gwen even made me smile! (I know, shocker coming from me who
can't just a ho!) But she was so sweet with Ianto (You like coffee, coffee and Jack!), it was hard not to. So anyone/thing would could make me like Gwen thatmuch more was bound to be fantastic...and it was! Plus, it had Martha, which instantly kicks up it's awesome factor by about ten. I really wish she'd just join Torchwood. They need a Medic and someone to dishout what Gwen serves.
But then Asylum came out and I was...less than impressed. It didn't seem very Torchwood-y to me. The plot was...meh and the characterization was a smidge off. I didn't like the way Jack reacted to/dealt with the half-alien girl. I don't think he really would have acted that way. (And my 'really' I mean I don't think that's how RTD would have written it, and RTD's word is law.) But then again, I suppose they had to have someone to be contrasted to Saint Gwen. At least PC Andy was there for some good cominc relief. "Pet bobby!" tehehe. But I even found him slightly annoying. I mean, good for him for finally sticking to to Gwen and Torchwood and demanding to know what's going on, but it got to the point was beyond making a point and to incessant nagging. Or so it seemed to me. Ha, I love his reatction to finding out about aliens. Too cute.
Onto "The Golden Age"....pardon the rambling, I'm typing this as I listen.
I think it had one of the BEST opening lines of any Torchwood thing ever.
Ianto: " Ok Jack...*big breath* I'm in position."
I died laughing and then listened to it over and over and over and over. And it starts out with a big, literally. And a bit of mystery....has potential.
Side note: I love John Barrowman to pieces but his radio acting is so lame! It's SO intense I can't take him seriously.
"Lots more marble than Cardiff..."
Ianto: You are full of surprises.
Jack: You live a few hundred years, you go to all the best places.
Gwen: Hum. Clearly you were a bit classier in the 1920s.
Ianto: Not seen him for 80 years and starts shooting at him....
Gwen: Old flame?
Ianto: Oh yeah.
Duchess: Save the world first, shoot later. <
JACK AND IANTO SHARING A CHAISE LONGUE FTW! haha, brilliant. But poor Ianto, gets denied a coffee.
Ianto: Um, would you mind if I had a coffee?
Bitch: Very much so....pour him a lemonaide.
Captain H? Lame. But BAWHAHAHAHA! Gwen totally getting dissed by everyone. Puts a smile on my face.
This whole getup is getting creepy....ELEANOR BACK UP OFF OF JACK! HE'S IANTO'S, MMKAY!
"My 'treasure house'" Is that what they're calling it nowadays? NOOO! JACK!
DON'T TRUST A HO! (Despite what it seems I hate that song. It was on the radio the other day and then popped back into my head and I can't get it out. Then again, it's better than McFly or "Heartless")
Hahaha, playing croquet. My inner whitey is squealing with delight. And how cute is Ianto being impressed over a lawn! LOVE HIM!
"...you raggamuffins! Oh the Welsh!" Hahahaha, LOVES IT!
*nervous laugher* humm...I wonder who the bad guys are...OH SNAP! No one messes with Ianto and gets away with it under my watch...
Bitch is psycho crazy and clingy. YAY FOR
JACK'S THEME BEING PLAYED! Love it. And Ianto's "hullo!" when pansy Gwen finally comes to. As if it isn't clear by now, I love him SO MUCH!
Hell hath no furry like Jack Harkness scorned. But I don't know whether to be amused or terrified about how they get their engery.
"I...don't...like...INDIA! IF I WANTED TO BE LOCKED OUT AND MURDERED I'D HAVE STAYED AT HOME!"
NO! NOT THE SHADOWS! WE KNOW HOW AWFUL SHADOWS ARE FROM DOCTOR WHO! LEAVE MY LITTLE IANTO ALOOOOOOOONE! *cue Trock song...COUNT THE SHADOWS! oooohh, ooh, ohh! Count the shadooowws...*
Eleanor is probably the worst crazy ex-girlfriend/lover in the world.
Hum, way to be original. This one scene is totally like the season 1 finale.
Ianto: I really think we should run. Coming Gwen?
Gwen: Jack, are you alright?
Jack: I'll live.
Ahhh, I see what you did there. Clever!
It's interesting that most of the radio plays take place outside of Cardiff. I'm kind of hoping that because the past two have been mainly focused on Gwen and Jack, there'll be a Ianto-centric one. Wishful thinking, I know, but one can hope. Also, not so much Janto love in the radio plays. I mean, at least in the TV series, they throw us a bone very now and then with a quick snog or hot house scene. But even without that, they normally always have a few scenes together or like, looks across the hub to eachother.
Fangirls demand more Janto TW writers! Are you listening? DO NOT piss off the fangirls! (And don't blink while you're at it...) You WILL be sorry if you do...
So, all in all, not a bad radio play this time around. All of the characters were really well written and spot on. Ianto's dry witticisms were fantastic and at all the right points. Gwen wasn't too much of a pansy. Jack was believable this time around. Angry at the rught bits, flirty and charming at the others.
Bravo to James Gross.

If someone knows a place where I can download "Lost Souls" I'd love you.
OH! And I also found out today that the UK was getting Children of the Earth like two weeks before the US! FAIL TIMES THREE FREAKING MILLION! The lameos over at BBC America made it sound like the US was getting it at the same time as the UK. Yeah, fine, whatever, the UK gets everything first so I don't really care about that. BUT DO YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS? DO YOU?
I'm going to have to avoid all of my Torchwood sites like the freaking plague. No Janto lovein' fics until the 25th. DEATH OF ME!
*sigh* I think I need to take a vacation to the good ol' UK right NOW so I can be there all next week and see CotE three weeks early.
ugh, SO NOT FAIR! Sometimes, Torchwood kills my soul.
