Life continues to go (relatively) well. Teaching at CMU has been very enjoyable; FAR better than grad school. The students are polite, eager, generally interested in the topics, and pleasant to chat with. I'm being paid *just* enough to scrape by, thanks to the cost of gas for driving to Mt. Pleasant, but I might get reimbursed for mileage, which would be super. And good old (new?) XM radio is like commuter heaven. Hopefully I'll only be driving twice a week next semester.
I've taken an additional job--teaching cute kids to act for a model/talent agency. The woman who hired me regretted that I was too short to model, but is excited to have me on staff. Largely, it's like training puppies--I explain to them where the camera is, and have them read an ad snippet several times, tweaking it until it sounds good. Most of them are rejects from modeling (too short), but cute, and not untalented. You can tell that their parents frequently tell them they're adorable/wonderful/talented, etc., as they think very highly of themselves. But getting paid $25 an hour to play theatre games with 10 year olds is not so bad...
I've sent my resume/headshot to a nearby professional theatre, and Mitch is probably going to do the same. Unfortunately, their season auditions were in June, while we were at Huron, and to really rub it in, they're doing "Man of La Mancha." :( But they allow new people to attend their callbacks, so I'm trying to squeeze in. Also had a call from a casting agency last night--I suspect its a borderline scam, but I'll probably check back with them. If all else fails, a huge community/semi-prof theatre nearby is doing "Cabaret" and "Beauty and the Beast" this spring, so we'll see if I can't make that happen. Still, I would rather be paid to act, and ought to be able to get SOMETHING for it, with a nearly full page of professional credits to my name. Might have to grow my hair back out, though...
Finally settling in to the apartment. Having my furniture arrive bit by bit delayed the process rather more than necessary. It's lonely, though; since I work out of town, I don't exactly meet people my age/situation around here to hang out with. Hopefully theatre will solve that problem in the near future.
