So, um, for those of you who don't know yet, my car is totalled.
Last Friday I was up in OKC, helping Alfredo move, and I was in an accident. A bad one.
Everyone is physically okay, so stop panicking.
Here's what happened:
There was confusion as to what exit to take, and we [Jim and I] took the wrong one. We got off the highway, and were on the ramp to get back on the highway the correct way. I hit the curb on the ramp and my right front tire blew. At this point, I lost control of the car and it spun onto the freeway. I dont know how many times we spun. I don't remember this, but apparently we got hit by a truck with a small equipment trailer/horse trailer. The car then stopped spinning. An off-duty paramedic was a few cars back on the freeway, he ran up to the car and got Jim and I out. We are okay, Jim skinned his knee and we have very minor whiplash. The car is undriveable.
Damage to the car includes:
- a missing front end/bumper, including headlights
- a crushed in back left corner
- driver side doors dont open
- jammed trunk
- damage to every major body panel except the passenger doors.
- shattered rear windshield
- car will not start
- and of course, blown front right tire.
In this case, solid purple means its gone, or basically gone. Stripes mean damage, but the part stayed attached to the car, at least.
[note, this is not my car. But it is a 98 White civic, so you can get the idea. I dont have any pictures of the actual state of my car.]
Ironically, the airbags did not deploy. The car was totaled today, being determined to be worth $129.00 in parts at this time. Don't worry, I'm getting more than that from insurance, I get the book value for the car.
My parents said they would cosign a loan for me for another car, so I've got some options. I can get a crappy car for the flat insurance money, but that really doesnt appeal to me. I'm looking for something under $20k, and cheaper is ALWAYS good. As is reliable. New or late-model used.
So, I'm taking suggestions and advice, since I dont know Jack about cars.
What cars should I look at?
