TV show: Lost Girl.

I wanted to find something in the fantasy genre to watch while Supernatural is on the looong hellutus.

I read a tiny bit about this show on another forum (Gate World) where someone was saying how terrible it was to have the protagonist as evil and that it 's necessary to always have a hero who's inherently good. Then throw in the mention of a succubus and other supernatural creatures and of course I had to take look. :D

What? Well it piqued my curiosity. :)

Plus it's shot in Canada. What more could I want? :D

I've watched the first episode today. So is it any good?

Nothing too spoilery...

Basically it's a supernatural crime drama with a bisexual succubus, Bo, as the main character set in a world where there are hidden clans of supernatural creatures.

Sound familiar?

Like most new supernatural dramas, they are so similar to other shows, books, and movies that it's  kind of spot the show, book,  supernatural creatures etc. etc. So I always let my mind wander in those directions while the episode runs its course and it doesn't bother me. It has huge nods to The Dresden files, one of my favourite series of books, so..so far, so good. And a nod to Supernatural for all sorts of reasons, there's even Emmanuelle Vaugier, werewolf  Madison in there, looking suitably classy and evil.

It's not too spoilery to say that we get to see Bo kill a human while saving a young woman, which draws attention to two factions of the local Fae. From there we have a quick introduction to some of the main characters (I assume) while Bo has a fight to the death scene, to prove her worth. Yeah...well, Shakespeare it ain't. LOL  :D

But did the Pilot do it's job and make me want to watch another?

Yes it did. It showed promise and pulled me in enough despite, at times, some corny dialogue, the obviously sexy clothes for the succubus,  the young streetwise sidekick and the two dimensional  'evil'  faction leaders. But it had some really nice moments and one very sexy bit as Bo kissed the Detective, who is some kind of animal/human creature. Even from this early point I could see some definite chemistry between them. And for once we have a  show that's not afraid to have good looking leads who are over thirty! Which kind of points to it not being aimed at the teen market and for that I'm grateful.  No offense meant to any teens reading but you do have the Vampire Diaries.  ;)

Plus it was nice and easy to watch for a non PG darker fantasy show and that's something you don't get much of these days with Fantasy and SciFi.  I look forward to seeing the characters being fleshed out.

I like a good fantasy story and hope this show gets past the obvious and tells something interesting. Plus if we're really lucky the writers may...just may..make proper use of the creature legends.
