Today I wore sandals for the first time this year. I wore them to a job interview (also a first). It was for a one day a week gig with a local farm coop. Right off the bat they told me their favorite candidate was an ex-employee they were hoping would return. Not even my shiny new earrings kept my spirits up after that. Fortunately odds are good that my negativity went undetected. I've got ninja skills like that. Yo.

Today the dog got his teeth brushed with his chicken flavored toothpaste. X_X I just re-watched a particularly gory ep of SPN and the toothpaste grosses me out way more (longpig!).

Today I did some physics tutoring over Skype with an awesome kid. For the first time in months he had done half his homework by himself before calling me with questions. He's starting to get the concept of using equations to problem-solve. I've been working with him on the 'how' but it seems that he's figuring out the 'why' on his own. I'd like to know how to teach that. But the point is he's learning. :D I am in awe of that boy's resilience. I haven't quite pieced together his life story but I know he lives in a group home for kids who have been knocking around in the foster system for a while. It seems like a really good program that gives him stability and support and resources and community but sometimes when I leave there I'm overwhelmed with the urge to find my niece and nephew and tell them that I (we) love them and will always look out for them. I resist the urge. Foolishly. Some day I might look into fostering but I'd need a little stability of my own first - like in airplanes when they say adults should put the oxygen mask on before assisting minors.

I think that last sentence proves I'm getting sleepy.

kids are love
