Something Wicked
Taemin & Dongho

May contain spoilers for Harry Potter 7. Sort of inspired by this picture. Here's to hoping Dongho cheers up! ♥

Taemin and Dongho catch the most important movie of the year.

Taemin waits impatiently in the cold and glances at his watch. It’s just like Dongho to be late, he thinks irritably, especially since he knows it will piss Taemin off. They're not the closest of friends admittedly, but Dongho is shameless in a manner that only he can be even to people he's not familiar with. They've been on-and-off friends since their debut in the same year, and Dongho's been chummier of late because he's got this ridiculous crush on Sulli. Still, Taemin doubts that Dongho would have agreed to this movie thing if it weren't for the fact that he owed Taemin a life debt of sorts (that included big puppy eyes and Sulli's number being passed around).

Taemin taps a foot, agitated. The movie's starting in five minutes and it's really damn cold out on the pavement, Gryffindor scarf or no. God, Dongho can be such an ass.

"Taemin-hyung."

What the hell. Taemin almost jumps out of his skin when a girl hisses his name. He panics momentarily because it's just not done to get recognized by fangirls now of all times - this is Harry Potter night and there's no way he'll be stuck outside signing autographs. He just about bolts until the girl rolls her eyes and shifts her bushy hair out of her eyes - "It's me, you idiot."

Oh. "Are you Hermione?" Taemin asks in disbelief, pushing up his fake glasses. Dongho gives him a look reminiscent of Professor Snape and indignantly straightens his scarf.

"You said we should do whatever it takes to make sure we won't get recognized, Harry," Dongho snipes, and Taemin coughs to hide his amusement. "Whatever, you dragged me here, you're paying for the tickets. I don't get why you didn't ask one of your friends."

"I don't know about you. Would your friends accompany you to a midnight Harry Potter movie?"

He's probably made a good point, because Dongho only shuts up and frowns, the topic obviously hitting a sore spot. Dongho isn't the most cheerful of people, Taemin knows, and that's really fine with him because at least this means he gets to be the excitable Harry Potter fanatic. People are staring at them now, giggling as they pass them by, "- oh how cute, it's Harry and Hermione!"

Taemin beams at the attention from his fellow dressed-up wizards and witches, and he shifts his bangs to reveal his lightning-bolt scar. It took him quite awhile to get it absolutely perfect, with Key's newly bought eyeliner and Minho's secret stash of pink eyeshadow. Dongho, too, actually seems to be making a rather convincing Hermione, with his pursed lips and small, pinched face. Not to mention the enormously bushy wig. It's hard to see what he looks like with that hair. Perfect disguise. Taemin's impressed.

"Ugh, I can't believe I'm here," Dongho groans, as they make their way into the theatre.

"Believe it," Taemin says mercilessly, poking Dongho's side with his wand. "Did you read the book like I told you to?"

Dongho gives Taemin a blank look. Taemin returns it with a horrified stare. "But Hermione," he gasps, "you're supposed to be the cleverest witch in your year!"

Dongho's mouth twitches. "…Hyung. I am going to curse you if you don't shut up."

Taemin's too hyped up to care about Dongho's downer attitude, so they join the jam-packed crowd as they enter the cinemas, everyone else decked in their own Harry Potter gear. Taemin almost froths at the mouth when the opening credits come on. Dongho only watches on with a somewhat disinterested expression on his face.

Two minutes in, Taemin's convinced that this is the best movie he's ever seen in his life. Of course Dongho's a bit of a troll compared to Emma Watson, but life is good - at least until Dobby dies. Sobs ring out throughout the cinema, and Taemin has to wipe his eyes with the end of his sleeve once or twice. Then Voldemort attains the Elder Wand and the movie fades to black and Taemin doesn't really figure how he'll be able to wait until freaking July in the following year for the second installment.

...Taemin still thinks it's the best damn movie ever. Until the next one, of course.

The lights come on and the giggly movie-goers start to disperse. Taemin turns to look at Dongho, ready to discuss the finer points of the film - "wasn't just that just amazing?" he crows - only to stop short at the tears running down Dongho's cheeks.

He's probably going through an emotional time or something, because the Dongho Taemin knows is not really the sort to slobber all over anyone's shoulder. But Dongho is just about sobbing into his hand (Dongho will tell Taemin later that he wasn't sobbing - more like trying to compose himself) and Taemin doesn't know what to do, only pats Dongho awkwardly on the back and hopes his friend gets a grip.

"That elf - "

"Dobby."

"- didn't have to die." Dongho gives Taemin a somewhat accusing look with his red-rimmed eyes. "You didn't tell me he was going to die."

"You didn't even know who Dobby was two hours ago!" Taemin exclaims, and several passers-by snicker. Taemin ducks his head as Dongho buries his face into his scarlet and gold scarf. A pause, then -

"Want a chocolate frog?"

They end up outside the building chewing on Taemin's chocolate frog stash. Dongho doesn't say anything for a while, until Taemin finishes his frog and then Dongho mutters, out of the blue - "at least Dobby had friends."

Taemin cranes his neck. Dongho is staring into space, his bushy wig falling into his eyes again. He snaps out of it momentarily to take another bite out of his chocolate frog. "Sorry," he says sullenly. "I've been a little moody lately."

Taemin's not used to talking about the problems of his fellow idol friends if he's being honest, but Dongho looks so depressed that Taemin feels obligated to make him feel better somehow. That, and Dongho did come to watch Harry Potter with him. He squeezes his friend’s shoulder. "Um, don't worry about it," he says self-consciously. "I mean, you can tell me, you know."

Dongho just shrugs. "It's dumb. You were right. My friends wouldn't have accompanied me for this movie. Or any movie, really."

Taemin feels like he understands, to some extent. They're both the maknaes of their groups, and Taemin doesn’t usually hang out with his hyungs outside of work. Being away from school so much for the sake of the spotlight doesn't allow them leeway to make truly lasting friendships with others either, even if people tended to be nice to them. Taemin's not sure he’s necessarily comfortable watching a movie with his schoolmates, because they are friends only in the loosest sense of the word. He wonders if Dongho somehow gets lonely the same way he does. Maybe that's why he agreed to come out with Taemin tonight even though he's not really into the whole hanging out thing. He's even made some sort of effort to look like he cares about the outing. Taemin’s not sure if anyone else would do the same for his fannish enthusiasm.

And Dongho doesn't make for a hideous girl, anyway. He's a pretty cute Hermione.

…Now Taemin thinks maybe he should have come dressed as Ron.

"Well," he says lamely, "you can watch part two with me next year."

Dongho gives him a tight smile, crushing the chocolate wrapper in his hand. "I hope it's a happy ending, this one was so depressing," he mumbles, and he actually looks sort of offended at the moment. "I thought these movies always end well!"

"It does." Dongho raises an eyebrow, and Taemin laughs at his sceptical expression. "This is just part one of two - aish, read the books." He holds out his hand. "Come along, Hermione. I'm sure you have a curfew."

Dongho makes a face, but he accepts Taemin's hand and gets to his feet. "How am I supposed to wait until July?" he grouses, toeing the gravel in irritation. "That's a whole freaking year away."

Taemin smothers his grin. "We could watch something else before that if you really can't wait to hang out with me," he says with the straightest face he can manage. "In the meantime... read the books."

Dongho snorts. "Oh, shut up," he mutters. And steals another one of Taemin's chocolate frogs.

Best damn movie ever, Taemin thinks cheerily, as they head back together. Until the next one, of course.
