Hello all!
I haven't updated in a while and I'm sorry, but things have been a-brewing in the Northwoods. First, and coolest, is that after a lot of searching and waiting I found an apartment. It is a large one-bedroom place in Crandon, above a Subway. It is across the street from work so I won't have to drive two hours everyday to get to and from work, and it has a gorgeous view of the town square. It is a corner apartment, and I have HUGE windows! YAY! The downside is that there is basically no counter space in the kitchen and there is a water heater in the bathroom. But I really like it. My folks and I are fixing it up and painting it (whoever lived in it last painted the bathroom neon pink!).
It is laid out as follows: When you walk into the apartment, you are in the dining area to the right is the kitchen and bathroom. The main room is has a half wall separating the dining area and the living room. Then the bedroom is on the right of the living room. I've painted the bathroom light green and the kitchen and bedroom a cream color. The living room and dining room, I left white. There is black trim (except in the bedroom, which is white), which is kinda weird but oddly modern looking, so I left it. I put bamboo blinds on the big windows in the living room and bedroom and I'm going to put regular blinds on the other bedroom and bathroom windows. There are ceiling fans in the living room and bedroom. I have a cable hook-up and internet if I want it, and my landlord said that Daisy (my puppy) could come visit once and while. (I'm working on getting him to agree to let me have a small dog.)
I will live next door to the landlord, who is currently on crutches. I have a neighbor who I haven't met yet, but that's all for my side of the building. Although there is a family with kids on the other side.
Since my landlord is on crutches, we've been doing repairs (he's going to take some off the rent). So far we've painted, replaced a broken window, replaced all the ceiling tiles (they were moldy) and cleaned up the bathroom. I still have to clean the carpet, stove and fridge; get the linoleum replaced and get all my stuff moved in, after getting the locks changed.
I'm really excited about getting my own place and the whole family is offering me articles of furniture and appliances for the place. Mom and Dad are giving me a full size bed and two dressers; Uncle Joe is giving me a tv stand and offered to help me move in; Aunt Joan offered a big kitchen table and chairs and a microwave, along with any floral/decorative items I might want; Aunt Jean offered to go shopping with me to get anything else I might need and Grandma told me if there was anything I wanted to let her know and she would get it for me for a birthday/Christmas present. While I don't think I will take all of the items offered, I do appreciate their offers. Oh, and Luke offered to help me move in too. I thought that was nice of him.
However, everything is going perfectly though. My car died on me this morning and while my dad hasn't had a chance to look at it yet, judging on the pathetic sound it made this morning when I tried to start it, I think my car might have died. Poor Johnny. I love my car. While I've always known that someday I would have to get a new one, I didn't think it would be so soon. :-( I'm trying to be optimistic that it will work out.
I'm also bummed that I won't be able to make it to the reunion at Stritch. I want to go, but there is nobody to cover for me at work and the reunion is in the middle of the week. Since we are getting into the tourist season up here, there is a lot more to cover each week and I have a lot less time. Plus I have to get my stuff moved in soon. But my Stritch friends are welcome to come visit me in Crandon. I have a futon you can crash on.
Well, I have more to say, but I'd better get back to work. Lots to do. I'll talk to you later.
