There's no way I can catch up on everyone else's journal but at least the holiday gives me a chance to update mine. Since last I posted I've done interim reports and report cards and held parent teacher conferences where two different parents thanked me for making their children love coming to school this year. Those are some of the moments that make the rest of it worth while. In the next few weeks I have interims again, numerous assessments to give, as well as the next pyp unit for which to develop lesson plans with my team. So no life coming into winter break.
In my personal life, Michael had his 11th birthday party at Dave and Busters where the 10 and 11 year olds played pool and video games to purchase the most popular prize, handcuffs. Somehow, I feel like I was contributing to the delinquency of minors;-) For DiG's 40th he had me make foods that Jack Aubrey would have eaten and then we watched "Master and Commander," even though he cannot watch it without commenting that it is not nearly as good as the books. Despite his eagerness to try spotted dog, he was not impressed with the pudding. British pudding is really an acquired taste that must be developed in early childhood. But at least everything came out well.
Last weekend was the 1948: Everest game. I had a really good time, although there were points during which I was cold and miserable. Luckily they were eclipsed by cool new guns, bonding through hardship, plot twists, tons of information to process, personal angst, stronger ties to her companions, and a new focus for Pat, i.e. saving Doc, his men, and the Earth, not necessary in that order. After which she can take it easy in some tropical locale or join the space rangers, I mean colonial forces. Despite Kendall's opinions to the contrary, she has no plans to breed. That would be Doc's job. He's much bigger, and stronger, and smarter than she is;-)
The kittens have been fixed but still love us. Verified by the fact that Sundance is curled up in his favorite spot, between my body and the keyboard as I type. Or is that his way of getting even with me?Probably both are true.
As to my other problem, I've finally taken a definitive step. Yes, I know this is vague, but I'll explain it soon.I'm not looking for sympathy and support so much as informing the people who have been helping me through it that the light at the end of the tunnel is in sight. Whether or not it's an oncoming train remains to be seen;-) More before Monday, hopefully
