I had a good time at ACL, and trent's car was totaled (yup it's now officially totaled.) If you want to read a story that I posted on myspace about the car incident....here ya go. It wasn't me who was the drunk driver, don't worry.
So CHECK IT. Here's the basic story, in austin on saturday, the second day of ACL, after the festival..julia john and i took trent's car (while he slept at julia's) to go get chinese food. We stopped to get beer. (illegal beer.) and we never made it to the chinese place.
BECAAAAUUUSEE....
A DRUNK MOTHER FUCKER WITH NO DRIVERS LICENSE ONLY A MEXICO I.D., HIS FRIENDS CAR WITH IFFY INSURANCE, WHO COULDN'T SPEAK ENGLISH, RAN INTO OUR STOPPED CAR AT A STOPPED LIGHT GOIN AROUND 40 MPH. what a douche bag.
i ran to get trent...i ran for a long time up hill = boo. especially for out of shape, sore jen with sore feet and sunburn already from ACL. god i wanted to die. Then I wanted to die even more when i had to tell trent his car was rammed into by our friend drunk pancho.
we were okay, except for a sore backs and necks which we're gettin checkedout at the hospital, blahblah.
moral of the story.1 is don't be an illegal immigrant who's drunker than piss trying to drive a friends car.
moral.2 is if you don't get HURT by drunk driver guy, even if you're sore and you want to die, YOU GET UP, GO TO ACL THE NEXT DAY AND SEE WILCO, THE ROOTS, CAKE, BEN KWELLER, SPOON, ELVIS COSTELLO AND OTHERS. OR ELSE YOU'RE NOT HARD CORE.

besides that , ACL was a lot of fun. Bands I saw go as followed:
FRIDAY: John Butler Trio, BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE(ever notice that the lead singer sounds kinda like thom yorke at times?), TOOTS & THE MAYTALS (really awesome, i felt like I was watching a piece of history, ya know?), franz ferdinand (SUCKed with a capital suck.), and left during los lonely boys(seen 'em, really good). That day, trent and I had taken the shuttle from waterloo park and met some guy named KYLE who was a really cool person from cali who followed festivals around the country. way to go kyle.
SATURDAY: saw a bit of CAT POWER (she's of course awesome, just not the kind of setting or mood), SOUNDTRACK OF OUR LIVES (aweeeesssommmmeee. very active.), then OLD 97s rocked out, my morning jacket (only caught a bit of them, decent),
Okay, so we were going to go to part of modest mouse, then go see the wailers...well while we were walking to modest mouse there was a point where going into my left ear was "buffalo soldj-AH....dreadlock rasta..." and on the other was whiny modest mouse..(modest mouse is good don't get me wrong but..come on.) i shun all of you who chose modest mouse over the wailers. ALL THE ORIGINAL BAND MEMBERS WERE THERE AND ZIGGY MARLEY WAS SINGING !! Ziggy sounds amazingly like his dad. he's great. the band is great. the vibe was great. it was a very uplifting and almost spiritual experience.
then we saw.... TREY ANASTASIO!!!!! (who was awesome. awesome. awesome. awesome.), and trey could only be followed by..THE PIXIES!! man, they were awesome. I was almost scared to see them because I was afraid they'd be old and burnt out. Old they were, burnt out, no not really. I think they've just been out of things so long that they're still sooo amazed that TENS OF THOUUSSANDS of people will come and bear the long, hot day just to see one of their favorite bands from the 90s. They looked truly appreciative of all the crowd's enthusiasm, it started a little slow but then it rocked hard. AGAIN, THE ACL SOUND SYSTEM SUCKED.
car accident happens this night, we are tired, go home and rejuvenate for....
SUNDAY: the ROOTS kicked off the day (fucking great.), followed by cute ass BEN KWELLER (he was good too, aww.), ELVIS COSTELLO!!! (he's gettin old),SPOOOOON!!! i love spoon. I always have so it was good to see them and see all the love they got from everyone, after spoon i had to russshhhhh over to wilco, trample some children and hop over chairs that were past the "no chairs beyond this point" sign, and i got to the spot julia and jessie secured with EL BLANKETO!, wilco was awessommmeee. , after wilco i saw something i've been waiting 10 years to see....CAKE!!! Man. I came to teh festival knowing cake was going to be there but I never got really excited about it - - until they were about to play, and I realized holy shit, cake has been a major part of my listening pleasure for a freaking decade and I haven't seen them yet. YEAH CAKE WAS AWESOME. They support filesharing AND hate major music labels. YES. I lovecake. go support cake. And because I strongly, sTRONGLY disagreed with ben harper closing out the ACL FESTIVAL where CAKE, THE PIXIES, THE WAILERS AND MANY OTHER GREAT FUCKING PEOPLE, closing the show, I decided to skip the last act and go the fuck home. hah. we were tired. we needed a ride home since trent's car was totaled, and CASEY, WHO CAME TO THE FEST W/USTHAT DAY WAS A BADASS AND TOOK US HOME. casey and i are going to have free pizza tomorrow a la the radio station. ahha. Thanks work. you feed me and my friends.
This entry was longer than necessary. But hey guess what, the new guy at work is giving me a windows copy of PROTOOLS!! now I need to get a computer that works..haha. aye. Good thing I have tech savvy friends. I'm tired. Leave me alone.
