(Fanfic-one shot) Surprise Love

Ueda Tatsuya woke up that morning alone as he always did but for most mornings, it didn’t feel as lonely as it did now. Tatsuya wanted more than anything to be able to wake up on his birthday (or just any day), his arms wrapped around the one he loved more than anything in the world.
He wanted to wake up every morning, every single morning, with his arms wrapped around Taguchi Junnosuke.
But Tatsuya just couldn’t ever gather up the courage to just say what he felt, so he did his best to put aside what he felt and was content enough being a friend to Junno. However, deep down inside, he wanted them to be so much more than that.
After a long hot shower and some quick breakfast, Tatsuya left his spacious apartment and headed for work. Unbeknownst to him, the group had been given the day off. He had not been told of this, seeing as his devious bandmates had convinced their manager to tell Tatsuya that they did have to work that day.
His friends were planning on throwing him a little birthday party; just the group members were invited. What made this more interesting was that they were planning on throwing the party in his apartment. So as soon as he left and drove off in his car, two of his bandmates snuck into the building and then into his apartment.
Those two bandmates were Kame and Jin. It was lucky that they all held a spare key to each of their bandmates places for “emergency” purposes (though in this case it was no emergency). It was more like breaking and entering.
Somehow, the pair managed to decorate the apartment complete with lots of red roses, balloons and streamers. About half of the streamers were actually covering Jin and Kame because a streamer fight had broken out.
“Tatsuya had better like this… If he doesn’t kill us first for sneaking into his apartment.” Kame muttered under his breath as he pulled out his cell phone to call Maru and tell him they were done decorating and that he and Koki could bring the food whenever they finished buying it. While Kame was calling Maru, Jin was calling Junno to ask him if he had gotten the cake yet, which he had and was actually on his way up the apartment with it.
So when Junno arrived, he managed to knock on the door, without dropping the cake and Kame let him in. Jin hadn’t been trusted to let Junno in without causing the other to drop the cake straight onto the ground.
----Meanwhile at a nearby grocery store….-------
“Koki… Put that down…! We really don’t need to give Jin anymore sugar than he’ll already be getting. Do you remember what happened yesterday? Tsubasa was ready to kill us all for Jin pouncing on Takki and refusing to let go until you said you were sorry for calling him fat.”
Koki sighed and put down the bag of popcorn. He couldn’t for the life of him figure out how Jin got so hyper from just one bag of popcorn and what it had to do with sugar. They finished getting all of the snack foods. Since it was a party, they didn’t really feel like cooking anything. Ueda would probably kill them if they set anything on fire in the kitchen even if it was an accident.
Ueda arrived at the Jimusho and was now making his way up to KAT-TUN’s resting room where when he walked in, he expected to see his bandmates already there. However, when he opened the door, the room was completely empty. He walked further into the room and lying on the table in front of the spot where he usually sat was a stuffed animal golden retriever with an envelope taped to him.
He walked over and picked up the stuffed animal and the envelope. He removed the envelope and tucked the dog under his left arm, opening the envelope and read the card inside.
“Tat-chan,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY~!
Don’t kill us, but we actually have the day off today.
So you can just go home and relax for a few hours because we’ll all be going out tonight and partying.
- Kame, Jin, Koki, Maru and Junno.”
Ueda rolled his eyes. For some reason, he wasn’t really surprised they had neglected to tell him they had gotten the day off. But he was really glad that he wouldn’t have to work on his birthday. If only… If only he could go home and relax with Junno by his side.
Then he noticed something next to Junno’s name. He had been so busy reading the letter that he hadn’t noticed it at first. It was a heart and in it was written “Taguchi & Ueda”. He wasn’t sure what to make of this but his heart started beating much faster at the thought that perhaps Junno loved him too.
Ueda left the building a short time later and reached his apartment building in about half an hour. He silently made his way inside and into the elevator. When he entered the elevator, he noticed something a little strange… Another stuffed dog plushie, except for this one was brown. He picked it up and discovered that there was also another envelope attached to it, so he opened it up and read it.
“Tat-chan,
You’ve always been such a great friend, even if you can’t stand to go out shopping alone.
I want you to know I’ll always be happy to go out somewhere with you, no matter how tired I am.
Because I’ll be spending time with you, and that’s all that really matters.”
The letter, however, wasn’t signed at all. Ueda looked at it, reading it many times, wondering just who exactly had left it. He couldn’t tell at all from the handwriting.
He exited the elevator a moment later, as it had already reached his floor. When he was walking towards his apartment door, he noticed something a little strange again. Balloons were tired to the door handle. He shook his head, wondering who it was that had done that. Instead of thinking about it, he removed the balloons from the door handle and proceeded to pull out his keys. He then unlocked the door and opened it to see only darkness.
3… 2…1…
“SURPRISE~!”
Tatsuya stood there slightly shocked as the lights turned on and standing before him were four of his bandmates (though two were covered in streamers). He didn’t want to know why Kame and Jin were covered in streamers, so he didn’t ask.
When he recovered from his shock, (which was when he was pulled inside by Koki) the door shut after him. He opened his mouth and said, “You guys planned a surprise party for me… Wait… Where’s Junno?”
“Well actually… This was all Junno’s idea. He even planned the entire thing. All we did was help set up and get the food. As to where he is…We have no idea. He was here earlier, because he brought the cake, but then he disappeared shortly after that.” Maru explained.
“Hey where’d you get that second stuffed dog Tatsuya? We only had the one that we left in the resting room for you..” Jin asked with a questioning looking on his face as he poked Tatsuya on his shoulder.
“I found it in the elevator. I’m not sure who it’s from because the card wasn’t signed… And no, you can’t see it.” The second eldest KAT-TUN member said, quickly adding on the last part because Jin looked like he was going to ask just that.
“I’m going to go put my bag in my room then. I’ll be right back and then we can start the party.” Tatsuya said, flashing his bandmates a smile before walking off in the direction of his room. When he walked in, he switched on the light and then shut the door behind him. The second oldest KAT-TUN member tossed his bag containing workout clothes for dance practice and some lyric sheets, onto the floor by the end of his bed.
He removed both stuffed dogs and the envelopes that had been attached to them from under his left arm in order to shut his bedroom door. He walked over to his bed and set them down. Silently, someone came out of his bedroom closet, which Tatsuya had his back to at the moment.
And that someone walked up silently behind Tatsuya and wrapped his arms around him.
Tatsuya stiffened at the contact from the anonymous stranger. Whoever it was, that person’s scent was so familiar to him…
“Happy Birthday Tat-chan… I hope you don’t get mad at me for sneaking up on you like this, but I wanted to surprise you.” Junno said quietly, his lips were next to the shorter, but older one’s ears.
“Junno?”
“Tatsuya, I...” Junno started to say, but his voice trailed off and he let go of Ueda. This left the other feeling empty from the loss of the other one’s arms around him. However, he was gently turned around by Junno so he was facing him.
“Tatsuya… I’ve been wanting to tell you this for a long time but I never was able to work up the courage to say it until now… And I didn’t want to ruin our friendship in case you didn’t feel the same way… So what I’m trying to say is… I love you ,Tatsuya.” Junno said rather fast, though Ueda was able to understand all of it perfectly. He was so shocked he wasn’t able to say anything for a minute, and Junno thought that with the silence Ueda was rejecting him.
“J… Junno... I… I love you too. I’ve been so afraid of telling you… But... I’m so happy that you feel the same.” Ueda said, tears of happiness falling freely from his eyes as he looked up at Junno. A wide smile, one just for Tatsuya spread across Junno’s face and he pulled the other towards him and hugged him. Ueda pulled back from Junno a little bit and lifted his head up to look at the other.
“Junno?”
“Yeah?” Junno replied looking down at his new boyfriend.
Ueda leaned up and placed a soft kiss on Junno’s lips. When he pulled back, he had a tiny hint of blush on his cheeks but he tried to act as if it wasn’t there. Junno just grinned and leaned down, replying to Ueda’s kiss with one of his own.
It was then they heard clapping and a bunch of whooping noises coming from behind them… They both turned to see their four friends and bandmates standing in the open door, huge grins on their faces.
“It took you two long enough.” Koki said, the other 3 nodded their heads in agreement.
“We were going to do something about it soon ourselves if neither one of you did.” Maru spoke, the grin never leaving his face.
Both Tatsuya and Junno blushed slightly from the teasing but they recovered quickly because the next second Tatsuya was saying, “Well… Let’s go get the party started then, shall we?” Ueda gestured for the others to leave first, which they did.
However, it seems Junno wasn’t finished yet because he grabbed a hold of Ueda’s arm and pulled him back as he was about to leave the room.
“Wait, I haven’t given you my present yet…” Junno said as he let go of Tatsuya’s arm and walked over to the closet and started looking for something.
“Oh but you’ve already given me the best present of all Junno… Your love.” Tatsuya said to Junno as he finally retrieved a small and beautifully wrapped box from the closet. Junno blushed.
“Really? Well I’m giving this to you anyways...” Junno held out the box to Ueda. The former leader opened the box carefully and inside was a necklace with a silver ring strung onto it. When he picked it up, he noticed that his and Junno’s names were engraved around the edge.
Ueda smiled instantly. “I love it, I really really love it.”
He threw his arms around Junno and gave him a hug. Junno then showed Tatsuya the matching necklace he was already wearing and that just made the shorter of the two even happier. Junno helped him put the necklace on and then they went and joined their friends and finally began the party.
The next morning found Tatsuya and Junno curled up on the couch asleep, with their bandmates and friends sprawled out over the floor, out cold completely.
