A funny thing happened on the way to the post office?

Not the Mann update but still well worth a gander, I think!

What you're about to see didn't actually "happen", story-wise, it was
just too bizarre, but oh how I love old cc! The borrowed animations may
look clunky, the advertising cranked up ridiculously high, but so much
of it is so quirky and funny and somehow still manages to surprise me!

It was an ordinary day in Widespot.

Errands were run. Friends shot the breeze.

It was all very 'Hail fellow preggo, well met'.

But a cashier girl got bored while the Watcher wasn't watching and, apparently, took it out on an unsuspecting newspaper dispenser.
This act of vandalism did not go unremarked.
You see, the aspiring mayor took great pains to bring accessible news to Widespot. Days late and concentrated
on news 2 towns over but it was a gesture of good faith and progress! You really ought not have done that.

"Smooth move Sadie! A nearby vigilante didn't take kindly to your destruction of public property! You better run, squirrel!"

"What the hell kinda post office is this? And why's that old lady wearing spandex?"

"One, I think it's latex. And two, don't you think the better question to ask is why the old
lady in the skin-tight costume is goin' on the attack? That's some poor kid she's after!"

While most folks relished the commotion, one little lamb hid in the bathroom until it was over.

"This is sick."

"This is hilarious!"

"Kids these days. Got no respect."

No respect at all.

The newspaper vendor avenger ran off to lick her wounds and the crowd turned eyes of disdain on the bewildered teenager.

It was self-defense, she exclaimed, "you all saw it, it was self-defense!"

Winifred began to reconsider how much time she spent in Widespot. As a townie, she'd passed through once
or twice and it seemed nice, the pace was relaxed and the people pleasant. But this? This was too much for her.
Where was that woman's family, letting her run around unsupervised like this, starting trouble? Shame on them!
And shame on the whole Widespot community, neglecting their elderly this way. Clearly the woman needed full-time care.

And this is why Penny is <3. She cheered on the fight like a good outgoing sim should-and hey, she didn't know who would win-
but as soon as the dust settled and Daytona slinked away to save face, Penny autonomously caught up to her and gave her a hug.

Perhaps Winifred was hasty and doesn't quite understand the dynamics of this strange little town and
perhaps it is worth sticking around, if only to keep an eye out for her be-costuméd grey-haired friend there.

Affection is good but there may come a time when she needs a real advocate looking out for her, so these episodes don't happen in the first place.

Samantha found her new friend and let her know the coast was clear.
First time mothers, bless 'em, and this one seems so young and precious!

But that girl! She could tell she was trouble a mile off, Samantha told herself.
Rude, disgraceful, and unladylike! She's just glad her David found a sweet, well-mannered girl this time instead
of those brazen rough 'n tumble types that usually cling to him, setting the worst example for her own daughter.

Right on cue, Sharla sauntered in, looking for her mother.
(Which was weird, there were no kids on the lot.)

(Even weirder?) Tommy followed.

Also: LOL!!
(I'm afraid Daytona's dignity is nowhere to be found in this little faux-interlude.)

But she managed to set one thing to rights.

"How neighbourly of you, Daytona. And oh look! Some money fell out on the ground!
There's nothing you can do about it, so you better grab it up before someone else does..."

"Congratulations Daytona! You just pocketed §45."

Guess that made it all worth it.

So, the Mann update is going to take even longer to get to than expected but hopefully not too long. While scanning pics, however, there was this and I didn't want to wait for Outtakes. I thought it was funny, especially when it happened, because of all the years I've had these in my DL folder, and used them, I've never seen that scenario play out. I didn't even know they were kickable-I assume that's what Sadie did since I missed it, only alerted by the doom music and the pop-up. Daytona was on the lot, minding her own business at the chess table and next thing I know she's Captain Hero. Hilarity ensued. Having a stranger so completely misread her character, with all Daytona's agency undermined, simply because of not only what she did but that she did it looking like this...ah, good times, always good times in Widespot. But no, Daytona, no, you are not Captain Hero. And, clever readers, let me remind you as well: this never happened! :-D

*Incidentally, I don't know how Winifred's character and voice will really play out, haven't had any significant interactions with her during gameplay. But she and 1 or 2 other townies that may have popped up (though their faces have been slightly modified but not hers) are by Inzey, found on TBTO a while back-could scrounge up a link if need be-they're making sure Widespot doesn't ever get too template-faced.*
