Went to see Romeo and Juliet. Wrote some fic.

My subject line is remarkably descriptive. I went to see a student production of Romeo and Juliet this afternoon and it was all right - Juliet was fantastic, Romeo less so. He was actually the same actor who played Hamlet just after Christmas and he kind of played both roles the same(?!). It's cruel, but I'm starting to wonder who keeps casting ( Read more... )

Beautiful, and rather dirty for you!

I never did like Romeo and Juliet, but Mercutio was by far the best thing about it.

Well, I couldn't let Shakey down! To be honest I'm not sure whether there shouldn't be more porn in it, what with it being Mercutio (<3) and all... But thank you!!

Agree that Romeo and Juliet drags after the Mercutio/Tybalt thing is over. And that's a beautiful piece.

Thank you! I'm not entirely sure what it is - possibly the threshold in any audience for emo? It all just gets that little bit slower.

Lyrical and provocative.

I know what you mean about inappropriate actors. For my birthday one year my friend bought tickets to a performance of Macbeth at a Shakespeare dinner theatre here in Atlanta; all the actors were quite good, except the one playing the title role. Not to be ageist, but he was far too old (in his mid/late 50s) for the role, he rushed his lines so it was difficult to understand him, and he had zero chemistry with the much-younger actress cast as Lady MacBeth.

I later found out that he's the majority owner of the theatre. Or was, at that time; I haven't been back since. Hopefully he's either sold the theatre or has stopped inflicting his acting on the paying customers.

anyway, just a little anecdote...

Dear oh dear... That's really not a good way to run things. Having said that I suppose that he might have been rich enough not to care.

And thank you!

See, now an older MacBeth and a young, sexy Lady MacBeth is how I've always envisioned it. Not too much of an age difference, but enough to bring out her unbridled, not-yet-disappointed, "the world is our oyster if we just crack it open with a big, heavy rock" drive compared to his more world-weary, "been beaten down and passed over before" ambition. Although majority owner of the theater sounds like talent was optional.

That's lovely - I, too, had forgotten how ace Mercutio is.

Thank you! And he's brilliant, isn't he? I should set myself a pop-up reminder once every six months.
