Diagon Alley - Tessa

Mar 18, 2009 21:24

Summer has been so busy, moving overseas, getting registered for a new school, getting the supply list and all.   Gads, you would think that Mum and Da could have figured out where I would be going to school before we moved so that I would not get my list on the day before the train leaves.  So here I am, punting around this Diagon alley trying to find everything.  Mum and Da are back in Ireland trying to get the house all settled.  I told them "no big deal, been in one shopping district, you've been in them all, right."  Well this one is like walking into a period drama.  Ok one thing is the same in every shopping district, you need money, so off to the bank.  Not too many kids getting money by themselves, but there are a fair number of students around.  No one that looks close to my age, likely a bunch of first years, with all the parentals around.
I decide after getting my money that I will go to the robes shop, Madam Malkins, I like to get a new robe or two, for the new year.  She takes my measurements and askes if I am staying close by or if I want to come back  later for the robes.  I am staying at the Leaky room 6 till ten tomorrow, I tell her.  After that I will be at Hogwarts.  She agrees that she will send the robes over to the Leaky. Great, I don't have to come back here.
Next stop on the rounds, Apothacary, stupid potions requirements.  Did I mention that I hate potions?  If not, I do, hate them that is.
Last stop that is required, book store.  Flourish & Blotts, sound interesting.  I love book stores.  That is why I saved it for last, well almost last, ice cream to celebrate all the shopping is done.  But for now book store.  What the hey, the store must be jammed with people, they seem to be all the way to the door.  Upon closer inspection, no just some bloke hitting on someone.  I barge right in, opening the door with more flourish than is necessary, yep, that was fortunate he was close enough to the door that it hit him.  I smile to myself, take that you pompous git.  (How do I know he is a pompous git, good grief if you could see this guy, he is like perfect but for the smirk on his face, that says I know I am good looking and you had better pay attention to me.)  I nod my head at the girl he was talking to, really it was more like crowding her out, and not letting her move.  The look on her face was hard to decifer, was she grateful I had interupted or did I just make an enemy?  Oh well.  As I take out my list of textbooks, he has been staring me down, I just look at the list and then look up to see where the section signs are.
He steps forward and says, in what I presume is suppose to be a sexy voice, "Well, beautiful, you seem lost, do you need a tour, cuz I will be glad to be your tour guide."
I just roll my eyes and head for the History section.  Is he for real, no way.
After selecting all of the books on the list and a few others for back up and light reading, I head towards the check out. As I near the checkout I hear laughter, I mean real laughing, not the ha ha stuck up stuff I have heard other places in the alley.  Looking around I see a group of red heads.  Now, there are people that call me a red head, not even close compared with these people.  In there midst are a couple of others, I see two very dark almost black haired one guy one gal, she must not be from around here, she has these great streaks in her hair.  Then there is the brown haird witch, whose hair is flyaway curly.  They seem to be enjoying themselves.  Wonder what year they are all in.  The reds MUST be one family.  Aw well, pay for the books and off we go.  I still have to repack all of this.  As almost an after thought I ask the cashier if my books could be sent over to the Leaky, room 6.  They assure me that can be arranged.  Great, my favorite thing to do can now be done with out encumbrance.
Out the front door and just to the right across the street is the ice cream shop.  One double peppermint cone later, I am sitting at one of the little bistro tables that are set up outside and am able to watch the people strolling by.  Over hearing bits and pieces of the conversations.   I could sit here all day.  I notice one other  gal watching people, we nod to one another, but don't speak.  I begin planning my packing so that when I do return to the Leaky, I can accomplish that task before leaving tomorrow.  I am not sure if I am excited or anxious.   I mean it's not like I am just starting school, goodness sake, I will be a fifth year.  It's just that starting a new school now, but then I remember Seamus should be attending Hogwarts, I haven't seen him since we were nine.  Now I am excited.  This should be OK.
