Can the Cliché
For: dela_sonrisa
Series: Glee
Characters: Kurt and Mercedes
Prompt: First Dates

If this was some kind of crazy chick flick, Kurt would know what role to play.

As the gay, stylish BFF, he would totally give Mercedes the makeover of a lifetime that would help boost her self-esteem and hook her the man of her dreams. But Mercedes already has a style of her own, and Kurt can't find a guy for himself, much less for someone as fabulous as Mercedes. Maybe that's why he's not surprised when Mercedes manages to further invert the stereotype and arranges for him to go out with a cousin of hers.

Three hours before Dushane is to pick him up, she arrives at his house to help him prepare. She quickly deals with his wardrobe crisis (Armani is always the right choice), before handing him a couple of crackers to eat to make sure he doesn't pass out from hunger, since he hasn't eaten all day. He holds perfectly still as she carefully applies a bit of eyeliner to his face, offering advice on how to kiss a guy.

Despite her happiness at his company, he can't help but feel a bit guilty. Mercedes had liked him, liked him, and that doesn't just go away because she knows he is gay. He wonders how much it hurts her to do this for him.

Finally she pronounces herself satisfied with his appearance. Staring into the mirror, Kurt realizes that Mercedes has found her calling as a faghag. He looks hot, and if he really wants to, he can end the night thoroughly ravished. No man is going to be able to resist him.

But before that happens, he needs to thank Mercedes for caring about him. Guys may come and go, but friendship can be forever. He smiles at her and leans forward, pressing his lips to hers gently before pulling away.

"Thank you," he murmurs, and her smile is both sad and sweet.

It's his first kiss. It's best to give it to someone who will always matter to him.

Moment by Moment
For: edenfalling
Series: The Dark Angel Trilogy
Characters: Aeriel and Erin
Prompt: afterward

Erin, unlike Aeriel, is mortal.

Rather than grieve their inevitable separation by death, Aeriel resolves to cherish the time they do have together. Picking up the shards of Ravenna's wisdom is going to take lifetimes, and Aeriel will need all the happy memories she can make to survive the gathering.

So everyday, Aeriel makes a point to make Erin smile. The dark girl's teeth are bright against her skin whenever Aeriel sings, so Aeriel works hard at expanding her repertoire to make sure Erin will be entertained.

As wrinkles form at the corners of Erin's eyes, Aeriel promises herself that when Erin dies, she will not mourn. There will be nothing to regret, because Erin will have lived a wonderful, full life.

Aeriel has already known too many tears.

Class Leader
For: lunefin
Series: Star Trek Reboot
Characters: James T. Kirk
Prompt: High School

The year James T. Kirk is set to graduate, the school board hastily passes a resolution to change the ceremony to include an address by an appointed student representative, rather than the class valedictorian.

The board president states it's because they need to recognize how well-rounded the student body is. The student body knows it's because Jim Kirk is going to be class valedictorian. His antipathy to the school administration is legendary, but no matter what his teachers do, he has yet to hand in anything less than perfect schoolwork.

When the news comes down from on high what the school board has pulled, Jim Kirk replies with a philosophical shrug. "I guess I can skip graduation, if they don't want me there. I can get my diploma mailed to me," he says. "I'm sure I can find another way to have a good time."

But Jim Kirk's fan club - which consists of over half the female student body and a good third of the males - isn't going to accept the insult lying down. Lola Tripestio, the class vice president, organizes an "alternative" outing to the cornfield where underage drinking parties are the institution.

Less than one hundred students of the class of 498 people actually show up for the formal graduation.

The true irony is that Jim Kirk would have skipped the ceremony anyway, since he didn't see the point in dressing up in a robe and prancing across a stage.
