Drabbles (XXXholic, Superman, Death Note, Princess Tutu)

Four drabbles (100 words, exact, by my wordcount) written for 31_days_exchnge, 31 Paths to Happily Ever After. More drabbles forthcoming this week. Thanks to sophiap, for the usual encouragement.

Butterfly Dreamer, prompt: when your eyes close, your sky keeps falling

Watanuki was really tired of not knowing if he was awake or asleep.

To tell the difference between dream and reality should have been simple, but his life was balanced upon the point of consciousness, where dream and reality merged. He found it disconcerting.

But he would put up with the constant confusion for the rest of his life, if that meant he'd be able to see Yuuko again. The instant he'd recognized the kimono she'd been wearing, he had known things were about to end.

So Watanuki was going to focus his dream on making her Wish come true.

Chasing the Sun, prompt: i used to be a child of the sun

Some days, Clark Kent refuses to let the sun set.

Everyone assumes that Superman is all about Truth, Justice and the American Way, and doesn't have a selfish bone in his body. That might be true for the superhero, but Clark Kent is much more complex.

Some days, when things go poorly and he is plain tired of his double life, he flies West. He sets a leisurely pace, timing his course so it is always noon. He tunes out everything except the feel of the sun's rays on his skin, a drug that he just can't get enough of.

Erase and Rewind, prompt: rage, rage against the dying of the light

While ending Yagami Light's life had been one of Ryuk's greatest pleasures, ever, he soon found himself regretting his haste. Light had been interesting, and now that he was gone Ryuk once again was bored.

It wasn't the nature of shinigami to regret, but Ryuk decided he'd made a mistake. Luckily there was a fix available, although Ryuk privately thought it was a bit too deus ex machina.

Then he considered another millennium of boredom versus using The Death Eraser.

It was an easy decision. As Ryuk watched Yagami Light crawl out of his grave, he couldn't help but laugh.

Gilded Cage, prompt: for i have made her prison be her every step away from me

Princesses do not have power; this is an essential truth of fairy tales, which is why Princess Tutu fails. She dares to defy the Archetype, and fairy tale worlds cannot accept this.

Mytho decides to rescue Rue, claiming her as his princess. Ahiru will never know how close an escape she had.

Rue flies off to live with Mytho in his beautiful castle by the sea, becoming the beloved princess of the land. She tells herself she is happy, because she has Mytho's heart and has broken the curse of the Raven. Rue won.

She has everything, except her freedom.
